To Keep or Not to Keep... That is the Question.
-
This years foal crop turned out pretty nicely. Only one colt who didn't make the cut and a bunch of fillies. I've managed to narrow things down to four, but I still feel this is too many to keep in my program. The goal is to produce nicely colored, taller warm bloods, who are versatile both for breeding and showing. The question is now, who's going to fit this best?
So here are the girls. I'd appreciate and comments on them that could be helpful for helping them reach their full potential and deciding who will be the best show winners/breeders.

This filly is out of my prominent performance mare, and I love her color. But will her inconsistency hurt her abilities as a show horse/broodmare?

And last, but not least, our newest addition. Love her color! Just not sure where her potential lies.

Thank you for your time and input on these girls. I really appreciate it. -
It's not possible to judge how well a horse will do showing when it's only a foal unless you can Performance Test it. Foals don't train and are entered in classes with only 2 horses in them, so how they place is dependent totally on luck, although there is a little help from their base score assigned at birth.
However, all of your fillies are unevenly bred. This means that their sires have longer pedigrees than their dams, since all of your mares are foundation horses and all of the sire's are of higher generations, some of them quite a lot higher. In the case of Shea Howlin, the sire's breeding rules request that he only be bred to 2nd gen mares, since he's a 2nd gen stallion. You should definitely spay her. It would be polite to contact the sire's owner about whether you may keep her or if his owner would prefer that you sell her directly to Yum Yum.
Since improving breeding ability over time generally is easier if the sire and dam belong to the same generation, these fillies probably will all be a better bet as show horses than as breeding horses. The sires of the other three do not seem to have breeding rules posted, so you are in a different position there in connection to their owners. What you do with them depends on you.
If you have any desire to sell foals or put your horses up for public breeding, you will do better if you breed even generations in the future.
It will not be easy to predict where an inconsistent horse will place in any given show, but many of them turn out to be decent show horses. When I sort my horses by Lifetime Points (which tells me how much they are adding to my weekly Showing Bonus), the number 23 horse on the list is a 19 year old inconsistent spayed mare with 2,731points today (meaning she adds over 1,000 hbs to the showing bonus each week) and a lifetime profit of 11,952 hbs.

Note: She is 23 out of 4,437 horses. Not a bad record at all. *G*Thanked by 1Abbey98 -
About Shea Howlin; I'm the owner of the stud and I'm fine if you want to keep her intact! I want to update my breeding policy on my horses for quite some time now but I don't have the time or when I am online for a longer time I keep forgetting to do so :p
So it's okay if you want to keep her intact! However, just like Sandycreek said, if you want to improve the quality of your lines it is easier to do so when you breed evenly (even generations). But the beautiful thing about this game is that you can play it any way you like, if you want to go on a different road and don't breed even or just do something completely different then that's fine too!Post edited by MasterStablesMS at 2016-03-17 01:19:36HJ1 160524
