Liver Chestnuts
  • Would this mare be homozygous or heterozygous DP? Assuming say she is homozygous Sty. Her sire is homozygous DP and with the new rollovers his colour changed into having reddish highlights, so now I'm not sure what is homo and het DP LOL! Her sire used to be a more black looking colour (where he isn't white), but now the red highlights are obvious. Very pretty! But wasn't sure if it was a new thing with DP or always been around

  • Based on her pedigree, I would say that she is heter DP. Lovely girl, and her sire is quite handsome. Her dam does not look like she's carrying DP.
  • Thanks! The dam had a strange chestnut look to her pally colour so I wasn't sure about her either!

  • I would say hetero DP too. If you look at her father you'll see he is much more darker, and that he has more of a blackish brown color in comparison to the brownish red she has. Especially on his hind leg and the top of his ear you can see he is darker.
I must say that DP keeps being a challenge to spot, especially since the image rerolls (but boy, they do look even more stunning since that!)
