Silver on red dun?
  • image
I've just refreshed this lovely stallion's image and now I can see he has dapples. His sire is chestnut appaloosa with silver gene, and the stallion is registered in the Silver Breeders Club, but does red dun show silver by dapples? Any more examples?

  • Silver is hidden by red. The dappling has nothing to do with his having a silver gene. Ammit has added dappling to the horses recently, and all you need to do is re-roll til you get it.

Without a link to your horse and without seeing it's gene test, I don't know if your stud has silver or not. But if he does, then if you breed him to a black based mare (EE), he would have a 50/50 chance of passing on the silver gene, and you would have a 50/50 chance of a black based foal with silver mane and tail. (That is of course depending on what genes the mare also carries.)

Think! - It's not illegal yet.
  • Silver can't do anything to a horse's color unless they have an E gene. Judging from what I've seen in my own herd, dappling seems to be more connected to having a sooty gene than anything, although I'm not sure if a sooty gene is required or just makes it more likely to happen.
  • Here's the link: CLICK
This stallion isn't gene tested, but his sire is. The sire is homozygous sooty.

As I said, his sire has ee so he doesn't show silver, but he's heterozygous for this gene. The dam is homozygous as she's Heart Of The Holidays RS.
So probably the stallion is homozygous for silver (75% chances for double silver gene) and at least heterozygous for sooty (as I don't know his dam's genotype).
