Lined Horses
-
What is a lined horse?
-
I think everyone has their own personal definition of when they would consider a horse lined. I consider a horse lined when it is at least a 4th generation horse.
The search options in the game seem to consider a horse lined at the second generation (a offspring of two foundation horses)Player id is: 223523 -
Okay, thanks!

A lined horse is anything that isn't a foundation. :) If it has parents, it's lined. What Maddy described is what many people would consider "fully" lined.
-
A Foundation Horse is one that a player creates using the Create A Horse feature, quite often using a Daily Herd Helper, either a personal one or a shared one. These horse have no named ancestors that have been part of the game, although for creation purposes, they must have a hypothetical sire and dam to which they can be compared by the testing programs. However, for game purposes, they are the start of a new line.
Any horse that a player breeds from two horses already in the game would then be termed "lined" because it has a pedigree containing known, in-game horses that belong to some player of the game.
A second generation horse has known parents in its pedigree. A 3rd gen horse has known grandparents; a 4th gen horse has known great-grand parents, and so on.
Many players prefer to breed horses of the same generation together--foundation horse to foundation horse, 2nd gen to 2nd gen, and so on. Once you get past the fourth generation, ancestors are not seen directly on the Family tab, but can be seen by clicking on the link to the complete pedigree. Where players who are intent on breeding only horses of the same generation draw the line at which they stop keeping strict track of generations does vary. -
I breed generation to generation, but as generations go higher, I think it would become more and more difficult to find similarly-bred horses. So I would draw the line at where my horses paper gold and Star.

Okay, thanks everyone1
