At first I thought appaloosa, but it lacks the speckled skin in the muzzle!
Could it be some sort of leucothrichia reticulata? -
Just looks like a Bay Appaloosa to me. I swear I've seen that one before, but the name, and where I saw it escapes me at the moment. This horse was probably born with a spotted blanket, and the interesting coloring you see is the result of varnish spreading up the body creating the odd speckling and halos around the larger spots. Similar to how this mare looked in her younger pictures - http://myhorseforsale.com/horses-for-sale/details/?hid=27003Go boldly, where no App has gone before!

It's a bay appaloosa. The pattern is refered to as "peacock".ID 195859

Looking at the "greyish" background, it looks like varnish roan messed up the bay, don't you think?
@Maribo Do you know whether the peacock pattern is inheritable? -
Yes, varnish can create some flea-bitten looks in certain stages. I had a fewspot filly who would sometimes have some show up on her shoulders/neck in her summer coat. Appaloosas are odd lol.Go boldly, where no App has gone before!

To me it looks like that he/she was born dark but now that he's getting older...his spots are fading ^^ if i remember right it's called the peafowl effect or peafowl spots...where the spots look like they are shrinking and have a ring around the spot ^^ just like this guy Mystic Worrier a Friesian Appaloosa cross
his before and after pic of him i found on google and another from when he was a weanling i think :)

Mystic Warrior is Lp/grey, but the first horse isn't grey as far as I know. Not sure what causes it in the first horsePost edited by Kintara at 2016-08-10 00:30:25
