How did this happen?
-
I just bred this little girl.. http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=4289075 and she's a warmblood! All but one of her anscestors are riding horses. What did I miss here?
Also is there any way to tell if she has snowflake? I'd have to GMT right? -
The heights of her sire and dam averaged randomly to give her height, and that height qualifies her to be a warmblood.
And from what I know about snowflake, it is non-testable. If you look up snowflake as a tattoo name you can see some snowflake horses, and they look nothing like any of her ancestors so I doubt she has it. Sorry if any of this is misinformation. -
Height doesn't have much to do with her being a warmblood. It's bone that has a key role in it so it might just be that she wasn't light enough to be classed as a riding horse.
As for the snowflake, the link keeps taking me back to this thread so I can't see her sire/grandsire or dam/granddam to tell if they're het or homozygous for snowflake gene. Snowflake will only show with two copies of the gene (like KP/GP) so her site and dam have to be at least both be heterozygous for it.I breed Drafts and star horses :D

I believe the cut off between riding horse and warmblood is 1.50 for bone size and she is just over that at 1.53.Breeding high quality Sheldasen horses in all the fancy colors.

Since her grandsire on both sides was homozygous snowflake, both her sire and her dam are heterozygous snowflake. There is a 1 in four chance that she inherited neither snowflake allele, 2 out of 4 chance that she is heterozygous snowflake, and a 1in 4 chance that she's homozygous snowflake. She doesn't have enough color on her to tell if she's the last.
Here's the correct link to the filly: http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=4289075Thanked by 1Redbud -
That single dot on her is lovely though

Thank you Sandy creek.. I have no Idea what I did on that.. I just really don't understand how so many light horses can produce a warmblood.. Also I didn't know if anyone had figured out a "trick" to tell if there was snowflake... She was snipped anyway.. so I guess it doesn't matter

I think, but I could be wrong, that if you click on the "link" icon above the text box and insert the URL for the horse, it doesn't work. However, if you just enter the horse's URL, it will definitely link to the horse's page. That's how I got the link to work--just went to her page, copied the URL, then came back and pasted it into the text box.
