newbie questions
-
this may or may not be a dumb question, but how do you get money? Also, do the horses age on here?
lol yeah, very new, and very clueless xD -
They are pretty basic questions, yes, but with this new forum the answers are a bit more difficult to find.
1. You get money in several ways.
A. Every week, at the midnight roll-over between Saturday and Sunday, you will get a certain amount of money based on your upgrade level. If you check out the "Upgrades and Extras" link near the bottom on the left side of your stable page, you can check out the amount.
B. You can earn money by showing your horses, but it can take a while to learn how to do this successfully.
C. You can earn money by placing your stallions up for public stud, if they are of a color, pattern, and/or quality that other players are interested in.
D. If you have many more mares than you plan to breed yourself and they aren't limited edition (sooty+, sabinos, White 3 and 4, Satin, Gulastra Plume, Ice, or Kit Promoter), you can put them up for public brood. Others may use them for embryo transfer, which means that they will not have the foals on their record, though they will not be open for breeding again this season. If they are a color, pattern, quality someone is looking for, they may be used to produce their own foal.
E. If you have real life cash to spend, you can purchase an infusion of game money.
Note: Breeding foals for the sole purpose of selling them is not a good way of making money because it generally costs more to get the foal than you can reasonably sell it for.
2. Horse do indeed age here. Every two months is the beginning of a new Hunt and Jump 1 year. Every horse ages up by one year. Once they reach 18, they become more and more likely to pass away at the start of a new year, but a few hardy horses do live on into a ripe old age. At 20, they stop being breedable.
Newborns remain foals for their first real-life month in this game and they age up to yearlings when the next real-life month begins. They turn two at the start of the next game year.
In H&J 1, the years/breeding seasons come in January, March, May, July, September, and November.

I'm back to report that you can probably still read the playing guides in the old http://www.kinetocoredesign.com/forumdisplay.php?11-Hajinc-New-Member-Barn, without creating an account there. You may not be able to follow all the links to other parts of the old forum, though. I was able to without logging in, but my daughter and I have been members for many years, so that may have affected the response I got.
At any rate, though some of the information will be outdated, and you won't be able to post there, you should find some very helpful information. You can always ask questions here to clarify what you find or to find out if something is not working because it's out of date. -
Thank you very much! I appreciate it :)
