Sorting in Pasture

I'm just wondering.....
When I do sort in a pasture, let's say I'm sorting mares by AFPT, why is it that the high numbers end up at the bottom and the low ones end up at top? I'm used to sorting things on a descending order. I think most people are used to descending order. I could be wrong, though.
