DP stands for Dense Pheomelanin. This is a build up of the red pigment in the hair that causes exceptionally dark coloration. If a horse has two Sooty alleles and 1 DP allele it will be a liver chestnut. It will also be liver if it has 1 sooty and 2 DP alleles. When the horse also has Cream, it will be a Chocolate Palomino.

This horse has at least 1 DP allele. This is not what is causing the dapples, however. They are random in all colors.

This game is very good at teaching genetics, not only the specifics of horse color genetics, but also the basic principles behind any kind of genetic inheritance. I've learned a tremendous amount myself.
