Consistency
-
If a stallion is tested inconsistent, does that mean his offspring will also he inconsistent? Does that hurt his breeding ability?
-
He will have a higher chance at having inconsistent foals, but most of them will probably be consistent unless he's also bred to inconsistent mares
-
There is some randomness about the consistency results for foals. I have bred two perfectly consistent horses together and occasionally had a foal that tested inconsistent. I suspect that these foals fell at the lower end of the inconsistent range--less variability in scores than many other inconsistent foals. I must admit, though, that I have too many horses to keep close track of the showing records in that much detail.
On the other hand, I have occasionally bred two inconsistent horses together with a resulting foal that tests consistent. I would expect such a foal to be consistent with a +/- 2 variability. But as I said, I don't check them out, so I have no proof.
