Best way is to shrink an image down to 25 by 25 pixels, zoom in super close and then hand copy it over pixel by pixel. That is how my blue bee was done.

My method is also painstaking, but not quite as formally organized. I start out with an idea for a tattoo, then start entering pixels into the editor, coming as close to an approximation of what I'm striving for as I can. Then I start editing and revising it until the mini-picture below the editor looks fairly satisfactory. I try it on a horse, or, in a corner of the image and continue revising until I'm completely satisfied.

I think the most intricate tattoo creation I ever did was for someone who wanted a series of tattoos that would be built up in complexity for several generations. I made a multicolored sunset, starting with one layer of color at the top of the tattoo box, with an irregular lower edge, for foundation generations in the line. Then I added a second layer for the next generation, a third and a fourth one as well. I think I ended up with a tattoo for the fifth generation that filled the box.
