You do buddy sales and breeding through the groups. You join by being invited by the owner, or you can make your own group and invite others.

Yup, you can create a chat just for selling to buddies, then add and delete people as needed. There's no charge for it.

I'm sure people have started plenty of groups for various genes, there's probably a few dozen for each gene at this point. There's nothing official though, pretty much people gathering together other players who they know are interested in that gene. The easiest thing to do would be to start your own. Create a group, then invite people to join w/ a post on the forum or such - you could add whoever was interested.

I added people to my "fantasy Farms Friends" buddy chat. I then put a horse up for sale, but a member couldn't buy it.. did I have a setting wrong? What could be the possible reasons for this?
