Horses get older when a new game year begins. In this game, new years begin every other month--on the first of January, March, May, July, September, and November. So, next Sunday, all your horses will be 1 year older. The exception is foals, that become yearlings at the beginning of the second month of the game year. You can tell the game year by looking in the very top right corner. That gives the real-life date, the game time (same as Eastern time in the US), the game year and the era. Below that is a notice of when the next breeding season will begin--right now that is January 2 for players with upgrades and January 3 for players without. The end of breeding season will be at midnight between Feb. 27 and 28.

It is also important to remember that horses have a chance of dying of old age when they turn 18. Not every horse dies that year. Some will continue in the game into their 20's. The oldest horses I have seen in 5 years of playing reached their early 30's, still showing as well as ever. *G*
