Need experienced members advice
-
Hey I have been playing since this August and I have been loving it. I am looking into a genetics related career field and the fact that this game is about horses and genetics makes me jump for joy. Today I purchased a basic upgrade and I'm just looking for advice on how to run a larger account. I would really love to hear from some more experienced members because some of you guys have amazing accounts that I would love to know how you got to where you are today.ID:226597

I didn't become a bigish (nowhere near some but larger than a lot) barn until recently. I never really understood the old showing system, but once that changed my barn blew up. When pastures came out I spent extra money every so often to get them so my breeding stock wasn't taking up space for my show horses. I breed everything lol. Keep the highest gen alters first (especially when barn space is small) because they are more likely to have higher pt scores and auction what isn't deemed keepable and not inhouse only/specific share. Right now I'm sitting on 3702 show horses of all ages and 1751 intact breeding stock of all ages.

Show, show, show is my advice. Keep everything you can and show them. Take your money as you earn it to buy IV's then buy more barns to house more show horses. When you can financially afford to spend a little real money, then use that to buy pastures to breed your horses easier.

What BlueSprings said.
When I first started playing (back in the dark ages) the advice I got as a brand new player was to buy an extra barn if I could and stuff it with the cheap yearling spays and geldings that people dump every breeding season, and then start showing them as soon as I could. That's still sound advice especially now that the show system is so easy and you make money based on the total points your horses have, rather than how they do in shows.... especially since a lot of established members donate horses with hefty points to new members to help them get established.
It's almost impossible to become an overnight success in this game. There's rarely money to be made by selling horses (either because they're ultimately worth about the 2500 hbs it costs to create them, or because in the long run they'd earn you more money sitting in a stall than you'd make by selling them.)
So show, show, show. Use your money to buy IVs, buy barns with those IVs, fill those barns with more horses, show those horses. Pastures make breeding easier but horses in pastures don't show, and so they don't earn points... :)
Once you reach a certain point, it's so much easier to spring for the premium upgrade because it shows FOR you. -
Yep, buy barns, hoard horses, and show everything every chance you get. Pay some attention to breeding lines, but do that for your own enjoyment, not looking to make a profit. When everyone else is breeding, too, there's not a huge market for new creates and foals, unless they have something extra-special, and then you may want them for yourself. *G*

Thank you all! I want to have good quality horses and not pay for overpriced horses that are not worth much. I have managed to find a few horses that have a decent amount of points for reasonable prices :)ID:226597

I want to add that I don't keep horses in pastures. I put them in when pastures are breedable, breed my 1000 plus mares, and then pull everything out and put them back in barns. I don't have the patience to manually breed that many horses anymore, so pastures do it for me. Then I can focus on the fun horses I want to breed using eggs and straws.
