Which stallion to keep for breeding?
-
So, I know this will likely come down to a matter of opinion, but I'm looking for experienced players advise on which of these horses I should keep for breeding. I'm not trying for certain colours or anything, but any advise on which are most valued to other players would be great.
These are the options:
Sorry if this is a dumb question, I just don't my barn full of all these foals :p
Thanks! :)Post edited by TuscanyRidge at 2017-01-09 10:59:01 -
If it were me and I was only going to keep one of them intact, I would go with http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=4774167 (If it were me I would geld all the others and keep them as show horses; I love my barns being stuffed to the brim with money makers!)
The first one has a slightly uneven pedigree, and since you have others that have even ones he would be an easy one to snip.
The second one is inconsistent and has frame. Neither of these are deal breakers exactly, but if you're looking for any reason at all to cut... you have boys that are consistent and don't have frame. :)
The third one is a 3rd gen B, and in my experience, by the third generation, I want to be breeding only to A-papered stallions. Also his notes say he compared about as good as his sire; I only want to be breeding to boys that are better than their sires, or the quality of my herd flatlines.
The last one is consistent... but he also has frame. And as I said above, frame in this case could be the arbitrary reason to choose the one without, unless you like his color better.Thanked by 1TuscanyRidge -
A word of warning that may make it easier in the future. The phrase "about as good as" does not mean "as good as". That "about" means the horse could be the same...or a bit better...or...a bit worse. For some reason, many folks seem to miss the "about'.
So those horses get snipped right off for me. I don't want to take a chance on having worse than the previous generation. :)
