Breeding boosts?
-
From what I understand so far is that giving a horse a 5% boot usually gives give the horse the equivalent of one testing grade increase, correct? For instance, a horse who would test B instead of C? Red instead of yellow (when the mare has had three foals).
Or is it just the offspring that are affected?
If you had an ex pro foundation stallion you really like and wanted to give it a 5% boost, would it test A?
If that is the case, and you want to match quality with quality and generations with generations, how would that work? Would that mean your resulting babies would have less of a chance staying intact if you bred your super foundation stallion to regular exceptional producing foundations?
I also understand there are different grades or levels of each A, B, blue, red, etc.
My horse in question is an exp pro ice appy mare that I would like to save to boost, I just want to make sure I won't be limiting the choice of foundation studs I can use on her.
Thanks! -
I have a few boosted boys myself, if you boost an ExPro they will go A. But it isn't always the case that the stud increases one testing grade. For example this boy: he was a B papered boy, I boosted him with 5% and now he still is B papered: http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=4120268 . So it depends on where in the 'paper bracket' they are, this stud I boosted apparantly was on the lower side of B, so now he is a higher B but still a B.
So when you boost the testing score is affected, but that ofcourse means the offspring is affected too! Since a better breeder gives better foals :)
What I find out is that if I beed my A papered foundation boys with exceptional producers I get enough intact mares, also intact boys but very few superiors to sires. This is as expected, since a male foal is compared to his father, wich is hard to exceed since I'm using mares that are 'one step behind' so to speak. The many intact mares I get is also expected, since they are compared to their moms, and since their moms are bred to a stud that's so much better, the filly's will easily get better than mom.
So if you really want to excel your lines, the best is using a boosted mare. Then you'll see results faster. But you can achieve the same thing with using expros/experfs, only thing is that the chances are lower and getting a superior to sire boy is a little bit harder (but I don't mind that, I like the challenge!)
About boosting your mare: I also have two foundatoin mares I boosted (or well, I turned them from A papered stallions into mares). I expected them to go blue, but when I could paper them they both papered red. So boosting a mare with 5% gives it a higher chance to go blue, but they can still paper red (but they are on the 'higher side' of the scale). http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=2857199 & http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=2857213.
Since mare papering depends on the foals they give, where you cross them with matters too. So if you will breed your boosted mare to only A papered studs, then she most likely will go blue (or high red), since she'll throw good quality foals. If you do a quick search you'll see there are quite a few A papered stallions up for public breeding (as there are every year), so I don't think you have to worry about not finding equal quality studs.
And as you can see with my two mares, I bred them with a few B papered studs too, where I got a blue papered foal from, but I also bred them with A papered studs which resulted in red papered foals. It's all the luck of the draw (and by pairing correctly / with a better quality you can kinda 'push' it in the right direction, because the chances for a better foal are higher when breeding boosted x boosted, but they are still chances!).
If you like her I'd just boost her, since (in my opinion) it is always useful to have some excellent broodmares, even if you would only pair her with B papered studs. Because even then the foals will probably have an advantage, since their mom is better!
Hope this helps you out a bit! Let me know if anything is unclear!HJ1 160524

That was very clear, thank you!

It gives you only about half a testing grade increase.Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

Thanks Ammit, and that's pretty much what you can do as far as foundations go to get the best start?
-
You can always double boost a horse by cloning the boosted one and then boost the clone again! Don't now how many times you can do that tho xDHJ1 160524

Lol nice! I can't clone her hom. Ice though right unless I had double boosted her first?
-
Well you can clone her, and then boost her, but the ice will dissapear indeed, since that is not cloneable. I think if you boosted first, then cloned and then added ice that it would be possible, however I believe that with adding LE genes Ammit has to approve the horse you're adding the LE gene to, so I'm not entirely sure if clones would be okay.
Yeah I rechecked the axiom thread, and there in the rules it says: "Clones must be preapproved by me."
But even a one time breeding boost gives your mare a great advantage!
And the thing with double boosting is that there *probably* is more difference in breeding levels between the mare and the stud, because there are less double boosted studs out there then there are single boosted studs, so that would result in more gelds/spays and even harder to get superior offspring.HJ1 160524

Right, I didn't even consider the last part.
I need to spend wisely anyway, and not put all my hb eggs in one basket.. Literally ;)
