My "horse" (really, he's a pony).
-
I was just looking through some pictures of mine that I have of him and felt like sharing with you guys. I absolutely love him! His name is Viper and we have been riding together for about 10 years now. He is a native mountain pony of the Philippines.
^^that's us around our first few months together. He works at a Western style horse-rental. I practically grew up with the "pony boys" as my nannies, so they'd let me run wild with their horses.
I think the Spaniards brought in their horses when they colonized, and they were draft mixes or something. The American's tried to cull and "improve" the stock that the Spaniards left (300+ years of breeding only within the Philippines had shrunk the horses down to pony size) but they found that taller, lighter horses were only valuable in the flatlands and that the native ponies had a fierce and hardy constitution. They were also long-lived. :) Kinda like Philippine mustangs or something!Post edited by Hall of Sleipnir at 2014-08-18 16:33:50 -
He's beautiful! It looks like he's got lots of get up and go, too.
Thanks for sharing the picture. -
Thank you! Hihi. He's quite energetic and a bit of a challenge to ride. Makes the rides more enjoyable though :)

Redbud, hmmm I wouldn't be able to tell, but so far as I know none of the horses here are gaited. But since it's all very informal here and no one really knows how to look out for these things, I guess we'll never know for sure? O_o

Think! - It's not illegal yet. -
Thanks for all the compliments, guys :) I'm definitely passing them on to Viper this weekend :D

Stinking cute pony.
He is not gating but he is cross cantering in this shot. So he is moving on one lead in the front and the other lead in the back. Very common in "yard" ponies with out formal schooling. He looks like a great little packer though.Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )
