Accounts can become associated in a number of ways.

Most Internet Service Providers rotate a given set of IP addresses among those members who happen to be online at a given time. So, each time you log into the Internet, your computer is given a different IP address. If you and the person owning the associated account use the same provider, this is one way your accounts can become associated.

In addition, if you both have logged into the internet from the same public place--a library, airport, restaurant, for example--your accounts will become associated.

These are the most likely ways that your accounts may have become associated.
