Palomino Question
-
I have a question regarding palomino tail coloring. Every day on my way to work I drive past these three beautiful palomino mares and I marvel at how different they are from one another. What causes dark hair to grow in the tail verses white hair? One of the mares has tons of dark hair in her tail that almost masks the white except at the end, one looks about 50/50 color wise and the other looks completely white. Whenever I drive by, I ponder this, but never remembered to post my question. Any theories or explanations? :)Specializing high quality dark horses with lots of chrome.

" What causes dark hair to grow in the tail verses white hair?" As a blanket reasoning, Sooty is the culprit for the dark hairs on Palominos. This is a close up picture of a Palomino mare's tail showing a big Sooty patch in it:

Here's the rest of her from a couple months ago before she got bushy (and sold). You can see her darker knees and hocks a bit here too. I didn't have a color panel done on her, but she is LPlp.

I've used Dream's tail several times now when showing sooty in manes/tails on pali's, it's just such a great example to use:P.ID 213454

It is Koda, I'm glad you use it.
