Warning: Barn prices via IVs will be changing
-
Very soon (this week!) I am changing how barn pricing works via IVs. If you are sitting on IVs and want to spend them on barns do so now. The cost of a new barn will soon be going up based on the number of stalls you own. (Again only the IV price).
Why the change? We are running over 1.1 million show entries per week on Hj1 alone. Almost all those entries are being created, entered and run automatically without anyone even looking at the horses. Many of these horses don't even have pictures because no one has EVER looked at them.
The number of show entries we are running per day is growing at an unsustainable rate and causing server issues. We have things as optimized as we can get them but there gets to be a point where databases are simply not designed to natively handle that sort of load.
I'm not going to limit the number of horses you can own, or the number of stalls you can own, or the number of shows you can enter or any other number of things I COULD do to slow down show herd growth. Those don't seem that fair. Instead the number of physical stalls you own will modify the cost of new barns.
-This will kick in once you own more than 1000 stalls (does not mater if that is in one barn or 50).
-Primary barn stalls do not count
-Pastures do not count
-Price will change based on the number of stalls past 1000. I don't know what those numbers will be yet.
-Price to buy with real money is NOT changing at all.
-Only IVs because bigger barns print game money and that lets them add more barns and grow at an exponential rate and gobble up server resources making the game run slower for everyone.
I will have more info when I get into the actual code of this but I wanted to warn people who have been stockpiling IVs.Need to contact me? Read this first.

The fact that it really is kind of a joke with this group says a lot doesn't it.

For people with less than 1000 stalls: you need more horses!
-
Thanks for giving a heads up Ammit! I bought two barns just in case it will get real expensive for me in the future xDHJ1 160524

So this will only affect those with 1000 stalls or more?

This seems fair to me. I know I'm guilty of not getting around to looking at all my pasture foals each year. Pastures make it easy to create more foals than I have time or energy to deal with.

I accidentally bought 600 IVs last week instead of my usual 200, so I guess I'd better go buy a new barn (or 2) before the price increase, since I have one of the really big stables. I do try to look at all my horses at least once, but the neuters often don't get looked at again.
I agree that this seems to be to be a fair way to prevent the server from being overloaded.Breeding high quality Sheldasen horses in all the fancy colors.

Yikes! I've been using my IV's to make more GP horses, I'll have to start hoarding IV's for more barns.
-
I hate to ask, but is it possible to make this a week's notice? (From the day it was first posted, of course). I would love to buy a barn, but there is still 4 more days untill I can. No worries at all if it is not possible, because I really understand the reason why why this change must come.
-
I usually try to enter everything as early in the week as possible to get what points I can which will reflect in the daily bonus.
That is not good for the sever, so if maybe people (including myself) can adjust our automatic entries for later in the week?
Regardless, the IV purchase price in barns seems very reasonable, but would it additionally help if some of the bigger barns would shift their auto showing schedules for later in the week?Post edited by veetiepony1 at 2017-10-14 14:35:05 -
Working on this today. Looks like this change will only affect 160 users in total. That is only a tiny fraction of our user base.Need to contact me? Read this first.

I really thought there were more of us hoarders playing!

Yep a small number of users use WAY more server resources than hundreds of others combined. Those people tend to also be the ones who actually pay money to keep the game running so that is 100% ok, but ya, barns by IVs needs some limitations.Post edited by Ammit at 2017-10-19 03:49:43Need to contact me? Some info I have found:
The 4 HJ2 stables that are over 10k stalls make on average 2.8 million dollars per week . A 1000 stall barn costs 4.1 million. That means it is reasonable that they could purchase a 1000 stall barn every two weeks with Ivs. I would like to make it so once you are in the 10k barn size you can purchase a new 1k barn every 2 months.
On hj1 players in that same 10 to 14k stall range make on average 2.9 million, with HJ1 having more stalls per player in that range. So stalls to earning is very balanced between the two games.
Looks like every stall you own should be earning you approximately 200 hbs per week. Some users make a bit more, some a bit less but that appears to be the flat trend for all accounts.
Average earning per stall is 187 on hj2 and 185 on hj1.Post edited by Ammit at 2017-10-19 04:51:22Need to contact me? Read this first.

I have not set any prices to change yet but you can now see what the extra percentage you will have to pay when purchasing with IVs will me. The whole system is set up so no mater how many stalls you have over 1k it takes around a month to buy another 1k barn. If I need to spread that out to 2 months I can but we will see how every 1 month works for now.Post edited by Ammit at 2017-10-19 05:38:06Need to contact me? Read this first.

Is it based solely on the number of stalls you have or is your daily income from your showing bonus factored into it?
-
It is based solely on the number of stalls you own. Does not include your primary barn stalls, any pastures, or your first 1000 stalls. So if you own 1002 stalls it factors off of 2 stalls not 1002. That way there is a smooth increase from 1k stalls on.Need to contact me? Read this first.

These are interesting and more than reasonable.
On HJ2: I have 2250 non primary barn stalls and will pay an extra 17% on stalls.
On HJ1: I have 11240 non primary barn stalls and will pay an extra 137% on stalls. -
I agree, it is very reasonable. For my 3850 non primary stalls I will be paying an extra 38%.
