FATAL WHITE
-
So i just bred these two horses together -
MS4 LocalChocolateKP
Small and Sensational
I thought it would be a bad combo because of all the white - BUT i looked thru all the babies out of the stud and a lot of the mares had either Large or Extensive white and the same kit that my mare did. So I'm extremely confused as to how mine came out fatal, super frustrated because i spent a lot of money on it expecting a great one ... -
It's because they both have white (the boy white M and the girl white w) which has a high chance to be lethal together. They also both have frame (lw), one copy is okay but two copies lw (so if the foal inherited a lw from both parents) results in a dead foal.
You can click the genes to read more about them. Also I will try to find the chart about the whites for you, that gives a lot of information as well.
It is my stud, so I will send you two free straws in an hour or so to try again (I'm on mobile now so that's a bit of a hassle).
This is the link that explains about the whites, white factors and lethality: http://www.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/16745/new-kit-lethality-and-kit-mutation-load-explained#Item_16Post edited by MasterStablesMS at 2017-11-10 01:01:20HJ1 160524

That link is so helpful. Most KIT crosses have the potential to be lethal but usually it's nothing you have to worry about.
Frame though... if you breed 2 frame (lwo) horses together, you always have a 1 in 4 chance of a lethal mutation.Thanked by 1tayyllooorr -
The W your mare has is I think is the most potentially lethal of the KIT genes, but as everyone has said you had a 1 in 4 chance of a lethal foal anyway with frameThanked by 1tayyllooorr

I have a special tattoo for horses carrying frame, just to make it easier not to pair them together.Thanked by 1tayyllooorr

I've tried to read the genes so many times but I never seem to understand them... so what can I breed him with that won't be fatal??
-
The stallion is safe with any mare that does not have frame, white 1, white 2, white 3 or white 10. The other kit genes will not be lethal with this boy.
This is a very handy spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1HKUJgwuzbKilAgePgMfMewYd8kU3BKWbe8OcX5QNy_Q
Green is safe, red is lethal. I usually steer clear of anything that has even the slightest cance of being lethal.HJ1 ID 124061
