Warning about lethal genes
  • Hi guys,
I was going to put my stallion back onto the market as a stud, but I wanted to make sure he didn't have any lethal genes that I might need to warn others about before they breed a mare to him. Which genes are lethal (I know certain white genes are but I'm not sure exactly where to find them) and where can i find them? (I've read about lethal genes in the forum and stuff, but I'm still a little confused)

And one last thing, this is the stallion I'm putting up for breeding can anyone tell me if he has lethal genes? (Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't breeding a frame mare present a higher risk for a dead foal?)

    Thank you!

  • Frame + Frame = 25% of dead foal (i.e. a homozygous frame horse is lethal). The others are a little more complicated. Read this forum post to learn more about the other lethal combinations and how it all works

  • @TawnyEclipse Thank you! I have read over that a few times, I'm just a little confused as to where I would see the genes. This might seem like a stupid question, but is it mostly the little letter/number above KIT genes? Sorry if i'm confusing

  • The letters are short forms for the genes. SB1 = Sabino 1 for example.

  • @TawnyEclipse thanks! I think I get it a little better. So to put my stallion up for breeding, I should put a warning in his notes? (just as a nice gesture to let people know there is a risk with certain genes?)

  • Some people put notes up to help remind themselves or other players. It is completely up to you if you wish to do that.
