  • What is a "Top Notch Producer?

I have stallion with this Somatic tattoo: http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=2871737.

When I ran him through the Stallion testing, he received C Papers, which I understood made him pretty much a grade horse. Should he be bred? How would his foals turn out?

    Thanks.

Edited to add: I bought another stallion that had a Somatic tattoo of: "Special": http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=2686425. What does that mean?

  • The tattoos added by the game are indicated by different colors of stars. All others are made by members.

Top Notch Producers have 100% breeding, random training. (C papered, random PT)
Perfect Foundations have 100% breeding and 100% training. (C papered, 9.9 PT)
Exceptional Producers have 105% breeding, random training. (B papered, random PT)
Exceptionally Perfect have 105% breeding, 105% training. (B papered, 10.4 PT)

  • Your top notch guy is good. He will be a better producer than a normal create would be. His foals should be good. A "C" paper is standard for foundations unless they are exceptional producers.... Then those are B.

Your second guy's tattoo was put on there by one of his previous owner. They used this to identify a certain line they created.
  • The Special one, was just a personal tattoo the person you bought them from used to know that they had a horse that had been foaled from horses that had been upgraded (pearl and sabino added to his sire) and had aquired them. The person who created his sire, spent real money to add those genes to him.

The Top Notch one, is a rank that you can get from a Herd Helper. They have the ability to breed better foals. All foundation stallions will paper C unless they are Exceptionally Perfect or Exceptional Producer and then they will paper B. So he can be a decent producer.
One thing about Top Notch, Exceptionally Perfect, and Exceptional Producers, is that when they are processed through the test, they usually pass without getting gelded or spayed, as they are usually better quality in some way.

Think! - It's not illegal yet.
  • Thank you. Of course, as often happens, an answer leads to a different question: How does "training" differ from "PT"?
By 100% breeding, do you mean no foals will need to be gelded or spayed?
    I guess that's two questions, isn't it?

  • Starting with a TNP or PF is great, Exceptionals (and boosted, and boosted clones) are a way to jumpstart or skip a couple generations in your lines.

There are plenty of people who start their lines with 'regular' creates, who have a random (usually less than 100%) breeding skill. But as long as each generation is moving towards your breeding goals, you're doing great. :)

  • PT is the numerical result of a test that gives you an idea of how well and how long a horse will train. It is short for Performance Testing. You have to have an upgrade (I forget which one.) to perform the test which costs 500hb. Most foundation horses will have a PT in the 9's, although some will be lower. Exceptional show horses and Exceptionally Perfect herd helpers will give you horses with scores between 10 and 10.4. The goal is to get successive generations of horses to have gradually increasing PT scores, so that they will train high enough to get into the upper level classes--5, 6, 7, and 8.

NO horse in this game will always give you nothing but foals that remain intact. 100% breeding means that the horse is the best breeder that any foundation can be. It will still produce foals that are no better than it is and foals that are worse than it is, over a wide range of PT and breeding scores. Only a few foals will be better than their parents. The goal is to breed horses that will be better at showing and/or breeding than their parents, through careful matching of stallions and mares and rigorous culling of their offspring. Exceptionally Perfect foundations will have a breeding ability score of 104% along with a showing ability score of 104%. Carefully bred lined horses will gradually have abilities that creep up over 100%, but we never see that number, only the results of many matings.
