Pastures
  • I haven't really played with breeding via pastures before, but this "year" I was going to try it out. However, I find that the pastures have room for two stallions now. If I have two stallions in the pasture and click breed all mares does the game automatically choose which stallion they go to or can I?

For example, I would like to have a line going to my appaloosa stud and a line of matches for potential brindle foals. Can I choose which mares in the pasture go to which stud?

Furthermore, in reading the help for pasture breeding it talks about improving the mare's baseline but does leaving a stud in the pasture improve his baseline when it comes to breeding?

Additionally, I got a beautiful mare from my SS this year and when I placed her in the pasture she registers 30+ days in the pasture. Does this mean she no longer benefits from pasture time? Or will this reset since she has been out of the pasture?

Lastly, should you leave the foals in the pasture at the end of the breeding season does the game pay you $1000 or $2500?

    Thanks!
  • With a Basic Upgrade, you get a 60 acre pasture, which holds 60 mares and two stallions. Which stallion breeds which mare is randomly decided by the game.

The pasture bonus only affects mares, not stallions. The mare's pasture bonus is supposed to drop to 0 when she is removed from a pasture. I'm not sure what will happen with the mare you mention.

The 30+ days is the sign of a full pasture bonus. At that point, the mare retains the full bonus as long as she stays in the pasture or is moved from one pasture to another directly without going to the primary barn.

I believe the game pays 1000 hbs for foals left in pasture until roll-over at the end of the breeding season.

  • If you want to pasture breed your mares, but have 2 separate lines, your best option is to get another pasture. That way you have your appaloosa line in 1 pasture, and your brindle project in the other pasture.

I pasture breed with different sire lines, but I like mixing up the dam lines, so the sire lines have crossed into each other several times several generations later. The only separate pasture I do have other than the ones I have for generations (foundation pasture, 2nd gen pasture, 3rd gen pasture, 4th gen pasture) is for my 2nd gen KP project.
