Have they earned their keep?
  • I have several colts who have placed dead last in all their shows (they are A and Star papered). Would you say they are worth keeping or are they better off in the auction?

  • Links to the horses in question would be helpful!
  • Also this game is more of a long term strategy game and often you can’t really tell if a horse is going to be good until it has leveled off. (Roughly when their age is the same as their PT)

If your talking about yearlings then you can’t tell at all because winning or loosing is pretty much a flip of a coin.

For older horses ones ones with low PT will level off earlier and often stick longer in the levels as they work their way up in the show ranks. Earning money as they go.

While higher PT horses often fly through the lower levels and rarely sit at one level long enough to be competitive (looking like they are just costing you money) but they will reach higher levels of showing and if they level off in a sweet spot will make you much more in the long term than a lower pt horse.

When you are first starting out you will want a range of horses so that the lower leveled horses will cover for your higher PT horses until they find their spots. Once your higher leveled horses start earning your keep you can start cutting back on the lower end horses (or keep them and rule the world)

My rule of thumb is if you get rid of a horse the one taking its place should be younger and have close to the same or more points

  • Bandit's breakdown is 100% spot on. These are babies. They can't train. They're dead last in their shows because while they're yearlings they're never going to score more than about a 1. One of them is a bit inconsistent so he might get as high as a 2.... but as soon as they turn into 2 year olds, those scores will go up.

They have PT scores of 12+. They should be fantastic show horses once they've had time to learn something. :)
  • Thank you bandit and stone silo
