Which stallion goes in the pasture this breeding season? Some fun :)
  • So a bit of fun, in my nexus breeding project, I have 3 boys who are all in the running for herd stallion this year. The mares in the pasture are a mix of ExPro reds and blues, all of them are superior to sire and as good as each other, passed SBA etc, all papered A now this is where I'm stuck... My homozygous nexus boy who I'm in love with, is 10.60 PT, the other two are hetero Nx, but 10.80

    Opinions please! :P

    Zephyr Nexus
    and Mass Effect Wrong Warp.

  • lol I always let the studs choose when there’s 3 or less
Breeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes
  • Theres only one space for these three boys to fight over lol.

I love the homozygous one, but his PT being lower is offputting, but all those starry babies are nidging me towards him :P

  • I would go for the homozygous one :) I don't care at all about the stallions own PT (I have a foundation expro stallion with a PT of 0.6(!) in a pasture this year :P ) But I will take a hard look at his AFPT when he's bred to see if he's making up for his lack of points :)
Edit: my 0.6 stallion delivered! He's the sire to my best 2. gen pasture foal this season:

  • The stallion's PT doesn't matter a whole lot: it's related to his showing ability, not his breeding ability. If you're really intensely on the fence you can try comparison testing all three of them against each other and see if one stands out.... otherwise go with the homozygous one and call it a day.

After rereading I see you already did that. ;p There's zero reason not to use him then. In fact his homozygocity is a huge bonus if it's a Nexus project; then all the foals will have the gene instead of roughly 50% of them (and most of those being your spays/geldings....)

  • It's the breeding quality that counts, how they compare to the same horses, not his PT. Are you putting them to foundation mares?

  • @Kintara some of them are ex pro foundries, but that’s only because I don’t have enough nexus mares to fill the pasture the self lol
