Breeding intact and superior colts
-
I have not been able to get any good colts out of my breeding so far. I have a couple 2nd gen mares that are about to turn 4; however I have no 2nd gen stallions to breed to. All of the colts I have gotten were either sniped by breeding advice or tested as worse than sire when I ran the comparison on them. Only one colt tested as good as his sire. What would you all do?
Here is rhe link to my breeding heard.

All of my breeding stock are foundations except one blue girl; I use a another stallion for her though.
The rest of my heard are a mix of ex pros, rs, and regular creates. -
So I've looked into you herd quickly, all of your foundation stallions are of exceptional level. However, you only have a few exceptional foundation mares (exceptional producers/perfect).
This means that most of your mares are one generation 'behind' on the stallions level. Expro's when you paper them are B papered (or red for the girls), but regular foundations are C papered (or yellow for the girls).
So this means that it is more of a challenge to get foals that are superior to sire, since most of your mares are a bit worse than your stallions. It is possible to get superiors but the chances to get one are just a whole lot smaller.
So what I would do if you really want a sup to sire colt is breeding them to expro/experf mares. By doing that the mares are the same 'level' as the stallion, and thus the chances are higher that the foals will be aga or maybe even sup to sire.
But, even by having the mares of the same level as the sire the chances to get a sup to sire colt are small, I breed 100s of expro foundations to expro studs, and even then I get only about a dozen of sup to sire colts.
If you don't want to change your mare herd then it just depends on luck and patience, it is possible but it is a very slim chance.

I use ex perfect studs and mix of mares but keep them in pastures for the 30 day breeding bonus out of 50 in a sire I will get one or two superior each season per sire.Post edited by FLS Equine Cente at 2018-07-24 13:12:04

It's more a matter of patience and luck. Some seasons I don't get a sup to sire colt. Other seasons I do.
-
So if I have a colt that is aga sire would he be ok to use on 2nd gen mares?
-
When I was staring out I accepted AGA in each generation until a superior came along and then the AGA got snippedBreeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes

I wouldn't use an AGA colt, it means that the colt is only as good as a foundation, quality wise. The mares are better quality.

Here is a selection of Exceptional producing mares that were sold to me last year when I was the Secret Santa elf. I was offering them to other players to use for gifts, but no one was interested in these girls. They're mostly rather plain, but if you see any you'd like to use with your stallion, I will gladly pass them on to you for the price I paid. PM me with the links to the ones you're interested in and I'll put them in my Horse Exchange for you.

Thank you for the offer, but I do not know if I can use any of these? I am trying to breed Warmbloods with roan tobiano splash appolusia.
-
If you keep AGA colts, you can actually end up going backwards quality-wise. AGA means ABOUT as good as, meaning they can be a little better, the same or a little worse than their sire.ID 195859

@windedeagle, I have several second gen mares that have passed strict breeding advice and are splash tobiano appaloosa. If you would like them, let me know!

How would you like this guy? He is only a 2 y/o this year, but has lots of potential and is superior to sire.

-
@Wingedeagle your welcome to him for create price ($2500) if you like? :)
-
Thank you. I think I will take!
-
No worries at all, I sent you a msg :)

This guy is papered A and Superior to Sire.. Does not have what I am breeding for these day but have used him in past with good results. Breed to blue or red g2 mares for best results. The pasture bonus really helps with getting intact foalsPost edited by FLS Equine Cente at 2018-08-06 09:25:42

Will sell for 10k but he will help your breeding stock improve.Post edited by FLS Equine Cente at 2018-08-06 09:27:40 -
I can't afford that but thank you.

I think an A papered stallion would make it even harder to get any intact foals than it already is, as Wingedeagle on has one Blue papered mare.ID 195859
