Trying to get an understanding of DP
-
Is this mare is hz DP
so does that mean both her dam and sire are Hete DP?

ok fixed it
-
Nah, she is heterozygous. Must come from the sire, as the dam does not have DP.ID 195859

ok so the chocolate just means a DP carrier. Does not have to be Hz?
-
Chocolate Palominos and Liver Chestnuts are created when a horse has a minimum of 3 copies of the two darkening genes, Sooty and DP. That means they are either SstySsty Dpdp or SstyS DpDp.
Horses that are homozygous for both, SstySsty DpDp, will appear black to the eye, but will still be given the same color names. -
Just to clarify, chocolate palominos does not appear black when homozygous :) They look an almost silver black color.ID 195859Thanked by 1SandyCreekAcres
