Help sorting barns
  • How does everyone name their barns? I have over 200 small barns and im finding it hard to tell them all apart so looking for some suggestions
  • I name all my show barns Show A, Show B, Show C, ....Show A1, Show A2, Show A3....etc. But I've just recently discovered the joys of 1000 stall show horse barns. I don't sort or mess with my show horses as ALL. After monthly rollover I fill the empty slots and start again!

For my breeding horses, most of the mares are in pasture, but I have them separated into barns for 2 YO mares, 3YO mares, and Colts under 3. THEN they move into the Foundation, 2G mares, 3G mares, 4G mares, etc...

I also have 3 barns for foals, 1 for intact, and 2 for spayed and gelded.

(This is all on HJ2 where I have my bigger barn! Over here I only have one in addition to my Primary)

  • I just looked at your stable! WOAH thats a lot of barns! Are they all full?

You should SERIOUSLY think about saving up and getting some bigger barns for the show ponies and use some of the smaller ones for breeding horses! Those 1000 stall barns are a LIFESAVER!

  • Ive sort of been waiting for my showing bonus to go up before buying bigger barns im not good at waiting but i have been working on collecting more show ponies my horses are seriously in chaos as you may have noticed haha
  • At first I would buy the biggest barn I could and also trade in smaller barns to help reach the next size up. Not sure if your barns are all full or not but it may be good to calculate how many stalls you need to hold all your horses and how many stalls in larger barns you could get by trading in all your smaller barns.

Both games I use a similar system but on this one I have larger barns for everything (210 & 1000) and HJ2 I still have 60-210 barns.

    As for sorting:

All my show horses go into 1000 stall barns and I normally get enough of of a show bonus to buy a new one by the time I’ve filled the last one up. Although I’ve placed a limit on here at 5 show barns.

Then the breeding horses get sorted into 210 stall barns by generation. That way at a glance I can see which generation needs a boost of new blood, needs to be culled because it’s bursting out at the seams or needs a second barn (And on hj2 which barns to trade in for bigger size once I’ve built up enough breeding stock to justify a larger barn for that generation)

Also having all of a generation in a single barn or two helps me cull as I look down the list I can get a rough sense of overall paper levels and trim the lower paper levels so that the lines don’t stagnant too much. I only keep the highest 2 levels and cut down to the highest paper once the majority of the horses are papering the higher of the 2.

Then I have 2 floater barns I use for holding create horses I have for sale or foals that need sorted or can’t fit into the show barns yet. If I fill both of those I combine the highest generations together until I can make enough space.

    For naming:

My barns get the same prefix as the mares inside. I use the prefix JL for the ladies and JS for the studs and then I use the alphabet to indicate generation after foundation. Show horses get Z. After the prefix I add a barn number and barn size.

This way at a glance I can tell that the barn (JL : 1 : 210) is my first barn of foundations, (JLd : 210) is 5th generation and (Z : 3 : 1000) is my third show barn.

My pastures are all named the same way starting with P for pasture (to help keep things sorted on the naming barn page) but some generations have more than one pasture and I’m trying to really work on increasing my kp and nexus/axiom numbers so there’s also a KP or NX after the initial generational prefix (PJLa : KP : 1 : 100)

After the pastures run I remove each generation and either run them through all the available bulk testing in the primary barn and then shift them to the correct barn (intact or show barn) or move them to their generations breeding barn for testing at a later date if I don’t have time at the moment. I don’t add the prefix until all the testing is complete so that I don’t have to go readjust a ton of horses after they’re altered.

  • Sorry for the novel. I find that when I have too many barns all filled with anything and everything I get too overwhelmed.

Once I found my system and set it up it’s been so much easier (and calmer in my mind lol) I can add extra barns as needed without having to readjust all the barn names and having the names reflect the names I’ll find inside helps keep things organized since if I’ve selected a bunch of horses to move there’s probably only 2 or 3 barns/pastures with the same prefix to move them to (or find them in if it looking for them)
