newbie just curious
  • Ok so i just joined last night so i am a complete rookie, but i made a mare and a stallion (who has since been gelded) and i put them both in the first training mare is hunter gelding is jumper. And i noticed on the horses profile that is says that they are/were in a week training. So my question is, is that a real time week before i can put them in the next level of training or what? Mind you i am a blonde on top of being a rookie to this site lol. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated

    Thanks in advance,
    Holly
  • Yes horses train once each real time week. They can be show twice a week.

A game year, however lasts 2 months, with the regular breeding season running from the 1st to midnight of the 27th of the first month of each game year. (Breeding opens on the 1st for the administrators to be sure there are no bugs, on the 2nd for upgraded members and the 3rd for regular members.) HJ1 game years start in January, March, May, July, September, and November.

  • Holly,

In the future, you might consider more mares than stallions -- one stallion can breed to multiple mares. This will save you the 2500hb create fee for each stallion, and let you build up a herd of more horses much faster when breeding season hits (the more mares you have, the more foals you'll get).

Are you upgraded? If so, what level? I'll send you a straw from one of my intact foundation boys if you can use it :) If not no worries, I may have a good stallion who'd be willing to make new friends...

  • No i'm not upgraded :( not yet at least figured id poke around before deciding to do that. Amd i suppose that does make sense lol
  • It is also possible to find a wide variety of stallions available for public stud for 1hb during breeding season, so there is no need to have your own stallion at all when you are starting out, unless you really want one. If you do want your own stallion or more mares and don't want to gamble on the create button, you can buy quality horses from the foundation rescue (owner 13 on the horse search). All of their horses are the best that ordinary foundations can be in both breeding and training ability and are perfectly consistent, and HJ1 usually has a good selection of patterns and colors to choose from, although you may have to sort through several pages of plain bays and chestnuts to get to the more interesting ones.

  • Oh ok thank you
  • lake ondowa farm is right :) and I should have mentioned that -- rescue horses are great. So is public breeding.

You absolutely don't need to upgrade. That's only if you have the money and want to do it. I'd recommend playing without it for a little while first, to get the feel of the game before you actually spend money on it.

Here's the link for good quality mares for sale by Foundation Rescue. I've sorted them by points earned -- you'll earn bonus weekly pay for each point you have, but don't go crazy and fill your barn just to get points right away. Then you won't have any stalls left for the horses you breed! Try to stick to three or four year olds -- a mare has to be four years old to breed. There are TONS here, and some really nice ones on much later pages, so have fun :)

If you do decide you want a stallion -- and you definitely DON'T need one -- this guy is on buddy sale for you (which means no one else can buy him). He's an Exceptional Show Horse foundation. He's got four foals already, all of whom are good quality to continue breeding. I'll still use him if you don't want him, and I'll put quite a few of mine up for public stud if you don't want to spend the hb on your own stallion.

  • Also, breeding happens to be open this week as an end-of-the-year surprise from Ammit. No one knows how long it will be open, so breed now while you can and get an extra few foals from your horses :)
