    So I have a foal that I decided to geld and I went to sell it back with the fantasy gene button, but accidentally clicked the regular "sell back to game" instead. Will I get in trouble for doing that? Or what exactly will happen? Sorry for the stupid question.

    Not at all. The only difference is that the normal button gives you 1000 hbs back and the fantasy button give you 2500.

    Since Ammit has programmed the auction to check that bidders on closed gene horses actually are licensed for it, the fantasy gene sell back button is being phased out anyway. She mentioned this in response to a post in HaJ2 recently.
