Altered horses vs Unaltered
  • I think I seen some where that altered horses get higher points then unaltered is this true? If so I see I will be doing a lot of altering as I have just been leaving them as is in the barns.
  • Altered horses get a training boost so end up getting into the higher levels of showing earning more points per show.

  • I like to think of show horses as free money.

Even when they have low points if you add up their weekly show costs and divide it by 7, they don’t take long to start to earn more than they cost to show.

Intact mares on the other hand are money pits.

If you leave them in the pasture they don’t achieve their earning potential or contribute much to their upkeep. Leaving them out of the pasture to earn more costs you more to breed and a single mare could fill up a 15 stall barn with foals throughout her life (at a start price of 62,500hbs) on top of the 7,500-15,000hbs to breed her each season. If you start pulling eggs your looking at another 3,000- 15,625 each egg and implantation costs on top of that

This is why I laugh and laugh my way to the bank when I snip another foal

  • Thank you very much. I found a way to increase my showing bonus. :O)
  • A good ratio has always been 1 breeder : 3 show horses.

Although there’s always overachievers like me whose ratio is closer to 1:5 but that just gets your bonus up to where you want it faster lmao
