How does KP work with the Kit genes? I have a girl who is homozygous for roan, her sire was homozygous KP. Can she still carry it even though both of her Kit modifiers are the same? What about foals who only have one Kit modifier, for example Kit(roan)Kit? Do they count as Hetero KP, or is it just that they can't pass it on anymore? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)>- KP is pretty new to me.

I know horses that have the same kit modifier for both genes can express kp. I have a kp mare that is homozygous roan.

KP can be passed on with no KIT genes needed. It works as it's own gene, it just needs to be homozygous and have two KIT genes to be expressed. However, you could have a horse with one copy of KP and no KIT genes and that horse still has a 50% chance of passing on KP to its offspring. I think this answers what you're asking. :)
