lol i never geld based on benchmarks because certain studs have certain genes for me so i could never geld them. I also have about a million lines going all at once soooo :)) But that's just me. Congrats on the new boy!

Lol I can’t not, otherwise I end up with too many and not enough space or girls for them as I’m just as harsh on them!
I’d been looking for a way to cut down numbers and this was just the thing I needed lol

How do you decide which stud is your benchmark? I'm so not that advanced and I just breed all willy nilly (even lines) and keep superior sons lol

Comparing each stud of similar lineage in a generation until one manages to test superior to one, or more. He's your benchmark.

I used to do benchmarking, but that got expensive, and it would mean that certain sire lines would have been eliminated since not all of my breeding stock start at C/Yellow. I just keep sup to son stallions for their respective sire lines since I have some specific sire lines that have different LE genes.

That's what I have been doing. I will occasionally compare brothers to each other to see which one I'd rather keep but they always seem to be as good as each other, never superior :(

I think I want to start a little project from C/Yellow horses and see if I can get them to improve over time using benchmarks and not worrying about genes!

It's possible to get a Star papered stallion in 4 generations from C/Yellow stock. I have one such stallion - his sireline progression was C - B - A - Star. No boosting. It just happened that way. It's very rare to get that, though.

That will be my goal, then! I think I'm going to start with some B/red and C/yellow pairings just for fun. :)

Wish I could get my 2G down though! Starting to cull 3G to *Star and *Gold only, but that will be an effort on the girls partas they carry a lot of genes I want to keep.
