Little Overwhelmed
  • I think I've bitten off more than I can chew, I'm starting to loose the "fun" part of the game. It seems I'm always scrambling to get things bred, not really matching things up like I'd like too ... just throw in the pasture, breed it, then cull as needed. I know I need to downsize, or do I? Just not sure where to start. I've compared all my boys ... kept a few just for genes, but mostly if they aren't sup they get gelded. Mares a little different. I've been breeding Appy patterns in almost everything and snowflakes ... I do have SB2, WM, W8, Satin, as well as Splash M and Mushroom. I have been toying with the idea of taking a month off of breeding, but my GMT's horses are not getting any younger. (lol)

Just not to sure on where to go on this ... should I downsize? Take the month off come back with a fresh outlook, even if I loose a few GtM'd breeding times. Anyone else feeling the ... I don't want to use the word pressure ... but not sure what to call it on breeding the "bought genes"

  • I’m rigt there with you
  • You could always just hold off on 'regular' game stuff for December and focus on Secret Santa!

  • I am having the same problem myself.
  • I’ve taken a month off breeding a lot of times. Or picked and chose which horses I wanted to breed (the special ones) and left the rest or put them up for brood. You may find narrowing your focus a bit until you get less overwhelmed may help with the pressure then start to add things back in

  • Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I feel so rushed now. I miss the old breeding season. It gave me the time I needed to get things done in game and still have time for projects IRL. Now it's either spend time here, or spend time writing and whatnot. I don't have time for both.
  • I've been overwhelmed for quite some time, but have decided not to stress out about it. This game year, I pulled the stallions out of a lot of the pastures on this server so I can, I hope, do a better job with the HaJ 2 foals, though I'm not sure I'm doing it even so. Next game year, I'll switch servers to concentrate on.

I get a lot of my fun helping answer questions for new players, anyway, so breeding sometimes seems like a sideline to my "play."

  • I haven't decided to do Secret Santa ... with me being on limited funds this year I'm not going to have the usual that I have, and I always feel like I haven't "done enough" lol

Although its kinda a breather to realize that I'm not the only feeling "rushed" I guess the word is. I'm not doing a complaining post was just wondering what others were doing. I guess I could just focus on the coasted stock and back bench the others for a bit ... maybe that will get my Hb's up so I can do some other stuff ... (like I need a new project heh) .... thanks for the input guys :)

  • I noticed i had almost 200 breeding mares, nothing was organized and i didnt play because it felt more like a chore not a game.
I started with sorting my groups into different barns. Then i looked at my goal overall - do i want a certain color or am i going for quality? There was my first cull.
Then i looked at my studs and mares. If a colt wasn't being used but he was quality, i sold him (if he didnt fit the program). My broods i was far pickier. I looked at all their foals, what they had been bred to, and if I thought she showed progression in her lineage, i kept her.
If not, I sold her or I added her to the show string.

The last thing i did was I culled my show horses. Yes, i culled them. Hindsight maybe wasnt smart because the season after more than 3/4 of my show barn died of old age and i went from a 200k daily show bonus to just 25k. Nevertheless, i culled any lower PT horse, any leveled off (in a bad spot) but of good age horse, or any older horse with no points and at a low show level. For example a 12pt gelding that was 8 years old showing at 2W i would sell.

Thats at least how i got wraps and made it a but more fun and manageable. Perhaps it will help you ^.^

Best of luck and have a safe holiday!

  • I was getting overwhelmed but I cut back on breeding. Although I have a lot of horses in pastures some months I breed a lot, and sometimes not many. I just pick 10 mares at a time and choose a stallion for them. It means a lot of the less interesting ones don't get bred, but I figure that's ok

  • I'm having the same problem, so now I've been going through a mercilessly culling stallions and mares! I'm culling by color, pt, paper level, consistency, whatever I can think of to take the "work" out of breeding and put the fun back in. Now I've been trying to focus on breeding my fancy foundation boys and the rest get bred when I have the time. I figure what I paid real money for or spent a lot of gmts on are going to be priority and the rest don't matter nearly as much!

  • I have been having the same problem on HJ2, even though I started out on there and I'm used to the one month breeding cycle. Glad to know I'm not the only one who is starting to feel the chore part and less of the fun part. It is so difficult for me to cull, I just can't make myself do it most of the time. What I plan to do is skip breeding altogether for the month of December. I do have several nice closed gene and GMTed studs that will sadly have to just lose a month of foals. I'm going to use my show bonus to test all the horses I've been putting off, and buy several more barns so I can sort everything out and have room to spare. Then I will cull some things that I'm not really interested in breeding anymore. Mostly I just plan to cut back on breeding every month so, over time, my stock will eventually die off and I will have less and less.
  • I've been having the same issue as well. My barn isn't as big as some of yours, but I'm still struggling to get everything bred. I don't even know when I'll have time to get everything named! I do and I don't like the new breeding season. It definitely has some benefits, but it is very difficult to make sure everything is bred. I pulled so many eggs, but I won't have time to do anything with them this season.

  • I've started the thin ... oh so painful LOL ... been circling around the 120 stall Expro barn ... but so many points in there that I closed that barn, so far I've put a few in the pasture for Dec breeding ... mostly any I've Gmt'd and my livers ... now to wait ... see who I loose at roll over and start thinning some more ... Gonna try and get my goal to another 1000 stall show barn ... that will give me a little breathing room
