Stupid question, but what can I do to make this mare look like a darker liver, like this for example.

I know mine is homozygous DP because it would not let me add another copy at all when I tried. Or does she look lighter because of the satin? This is my mare-

I'd say it's that Satin at play there. She's lovely either way!

She is lovely, but to make her darker you would need to remove the pangare gene.

As far as my understanding goes, Pangere does not affect the body of a horse's coat, just the "points" on a red horse. Almost opposite of what Agouti does with black. The example mare, pictured first, also shows Pangere, so that is not the difference between the two horses.

Painted, I don't think the pangere is effecting it because I've gone through and looked at several horses and some have it and some do not. Plus i tried adding a copy of it before and it didn't do anything really. I think it might be the satin.

I did more digging and came across this horse... this is what ive been trying to get her to look like. Im just really confused on what else i can do to make her darker. :/

All I can say is try rerolling her portrait maybe?

Nope, that doesn't work either. She has been rerolled atleast 50 times haha!

Is it the brown At gene? The first example horse you like is aa and the second is aA and your mare is AAt.

Not sure if that is throwing the colour off as I only work with aa horses for my grullo horde.

Unless there's a dominant extension, the agouti genes have no effect on the horse's appearance, because the function of agouti is to change where black pigment is found.

They all look pretty much the same to me, and all appear to be homozygous DP.

Ah. Thank you @sandycreekacres I stick with EE/aa/DD non appy horses so DP and snowflake has me all turned around trying to figure it out. My SS last year bred for it and I thought I had it all sorted out then but I think it’s all floated away
