homozygous nd1 question
-
I am a little confused with the nd1 and nd2. Are they mutations of dun or is it something else? Thank you.
-
@Abbey98 this is what was explained to me The Dun gene comes in three allelle flavors - Dun, non-dun 1, and non-dun 2. Dun provides body dilution and primitive markings (leg bars, shoulder bars, face mask, dorsal stripe). nd1 basically just provides the primitive markings. There may be a little bit of body dilution, but not compared to Dun. nd2 is absence of dun and primitive markings.

Think of it as being like the 4 alleles of Agouti--Wild Bay (A+), most dominant; A, recessive to Wild Bay, dominant over other alleles; At (brown), recessive to A+ and A, dominant over a; a, recessive to all other alleles, no affect on placement of black pigment at all.
Dun (D), dominant over all other alleles; nd1, recessive to D and dominant over nd2; nd2 recessive to both of the other alleles.
