GMTs and White Lethality
-
I have this lovely second generation colt, who's parents are W1 (sire) and W20/W2 (dam). He is W/W20, but I would love to GMT him to be W/W2. I know he already won the white risk factor lottery, but is it possible that GMTing the W20 to W2 would kill him, or is it only unborn foals that are at risk?

With White Factor: None, I believe it should be safe to add White 2 in place of the White 20.
I also believe that I have seen that genes added in the lab will not have a harmful effect, even if it's Frame you're duplicating. I just added a second Olw to a frame mare in the lab with no ill effects.
I have also safely added W2 to a foundation mare with W1, so I think you should be safe to give your colt the W2 he missed from his dam.
