  • So I'm not very use to having show ponies so I figured is ask

What makes a good show horse? Foundation only? Special color that makes them better at shows?

I know it seems like I have no clue what I'm doing ( shh I really dont) so i figured the people of this amazing community can help me understand a bit more

  • Every horse from foundation to generations of breeding, will have a PT score. This score will tell you about how old they will be when they stop earning points and level off. However, this number DOES NOT determine which level at which they will stop at.
    Take this horse for example:
    https://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=4283476

Her PT was 14.5. Meaning, she stopped earning points around 14/15. Altered horses typically train a bit longer than their PT suggests and breeding horses stop a bit early.

You also earn a daily hbs amount from all the points your horses hold collectively; if you want to know individually what each one makes, it will tell you at the bottom of the page. This mare for example brings about 455hbs daily for me, on top of what she can earn from her two weekly shows.

Any horse has the potential to be a good show horse, whether its a plain bay foundation or super flashy high PT lined horse. What helps is qeekly training and showing to earn more points and - hopefully - you level off at a sweet spot that will help you continue to warm points and hbs even after theyve leveled off :)

Edit: here, too, is a leveled foundation. Foundations dont normally get above level 6 in training, but are still very helpful in daily hbs earning!

  • The show program "judge" can't see our beautiful flashy colored horses. All it sees is the potential range of scores based on the horse's last training. A random selection is made from those potential scores and the horses are assigned their places for that show.

Most horses have some degree of variability in their scores. Perfectly consistent horses will have exactly the same score each time they show in a week. Those that test Consistent may have scores that have a 3 point spread to a 5 point spread. Inconsistent horses vary more than that and might place near the top of their class one day and somewhere in the bottom half the second.

You can check how your horse scored by going to its Records tab. There you will see the Class Name, the date of the show, the Level and Grade of the show (1N--Level 1 National, 4L--Level 4 Local) and so forth, where your horse placed in the class (6 out of 10, perhaps), and the score assigned. There is a fairly lengthy list of back shows so that you can check out your horse's progress over time. The top two most recent shows are a link where you can check out all the horses in the class, where each one placed, how many hajibucks they won, and how many show points were awarded. All these details are shown for just 2 classes because the server was getting completely bogged down trying to retain all the records of all the thousands of horses in the game over time.

If you go to Showing, My Show Entries, you can see a chart of all the levels and grades in each level, with some information about each one, as well as all of the horses you have entered in a class.

I hope this isn't too much information. Please don't hesitate to ask about anything in this message that puzzles you.
