Would like Training Explained
  • I would like to understand the training a bit better. How is it affected and by what is it affected? What are some of the best ways in game to increase it?

Any insight would be appreciated as I am new to the game and really just getting started!

    Thank you!
  • Hi Destiny!

In a nutshell, training is the thing that makes a horse's show score increase a little bit each week. You can see what that score is in any given week by going to their show records: the score is the total number of training points they have accumulated up to the point that score happened.

Each week, while a horse is old enough to train and before it's hit its plateau (horses younger than 2 and older than.... well, it depends on the horse) it'll get a fixed number of points. 3 is average, but really stellar show horses can get 5 per. Inconsistency will cause the show score to fluctuate; minor inconsistency might make the score swing up or down a point or two (so if your horse has 100 training points, it might appear in a given week to show at 98 or 102 points), whereas major inconsistency might take it 10 points or more (so it could hit 90 and 110 in the same week.)

Performance Testing will give you an indicator of some of these things. Horses with high PT scores will train longer (they'll hit that plateau where they stop gaining points later) and get more points each time they train. Gelding/spaying will give a slight bonus to training each week, so those altered showing foals get a bonus over their intact peers. Inconsistency will lower the PT score, though by itself it does NOT affect actual training accumulated, just modifies how it appears in showing.

The best way to get a higher PT score is to breed better showing foals. Star and Gold papered horses will have foals with higher showing ability than foundation quality ones, but you can usually buy spayed/gelded yearlings with high PT scores for far less than it would cost you to breed them.
