It sucks to be left in the dark

  • I'm the Guildmaster of a guild in a mmorpg I play, and over the holidays one of my senior officers got sepsis and wound up in the hospital. He's had at least three surgeries that we know of, and he last spoke to us the 1st week of Jan to say that he was hanging in there and still hospitalized.

We haven't heard from him since then.

It sucks not knowing. His family aren't gamers, and I'm not sure if they would even know about his Discord on his phone. He was a bachelor, and he lived alone, although his parents did live somewhat close by.

I can't even google to see if there was an obit because I don't know his last name. I do know the state he lives or lived in, where he worked. He might have mentioned where he lived, city wise, but I don't remember it.

I guess this is a good reminder for us to leave login information, etc, for family to be able to notify online friends and whatnot.

  • I have been there and boy is it scary. :(

I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

  • Aye, me too. :( I hope there's been other less life threatening things going on and he logs back in soon.

  • The best case scenario would be that he got discharged from the hospital and is staying with family that doesn't have Internet access. At least that's what I'm hoping.
  • UPDATE:

I heard from him!!! He got onto Discord and gave us a status update.

He was moved to a rehab hospital, and he has to have his wound vacuumed clean 3 times a week. He has to remain in the hospital until the wound is healed enough for him to go home. They have told him that his wound is looking better and smaller every day.

He has been on dilaudid for help with the pain.

Boy, sepsis definitely isn't something to mess with.

  • I'm so glad you got an update!

PS my son knows to let my Facebook know if something happens to me, but after almost a year here... I don't have any of you guys there. I might have to update my instructions.
  • Yup, I've got to find the time to write out instructions just in case.
  • UPDATE:

He finally has come home from the hospital on March 15.

He has to work from home for the foreseeable future, and he has to carry with him a portal medical vacuum unit that's attached to his wound dressing so it'll stay clean. Nurses will be visiting him at home for a while.

His folks will help him with any house work that he can't do for himself.
