Breeding Advice for Foundations?

Originally this post was going to a question about how foundations were tested for BA but I found my answer in the FAQ: "Intact horses are compared to both parents, or in the case of Foundation horses, a standard benchmark."
Now my question is, what do you think are the odds that this awesome create would pass BA? He papered C but I'm scared to BA :)) Would it be the case that as long as a foundation papers higher than failed, it should pass? X_X (I know it's not worth it if he fails, but ack!)
DT Narrow Edge
Out of curiosity I've bred him a couple of times and some of his foals have passed BA, which seems like it would mean that he would pass.. as the mares I bred him to were all tested. I'm SO excited about this gorgeous filly he gave me! :x

His foals passing doesn't mean he will. I had a mare drop a perfect foal exactly what I was looking for, passed every test. I tested her because of it, and she got spayed. :)) Good luck!
-
Aw darn, too bad! Thank you for the tip and I'm sorry to hear your girl got spayed! :-?ID: 247225

@bluchrystals's right you just won't know until you BA him. If you can't afford to lose them then it's okay to just not BA him. But if you want quality over getting more livers then BA is pretty much a must.Post edited by Wolvevenfrost at 2019-03-02 14:12:05

If you're just needing livers I can get you a few straws from my foundation liver.
-
I guess I'll have to just buckle down and do it then :)) Ah well!
@bluchrystals haha yes, I've suddenly come down with liver fever it seems! That would be awesome, thank you! How much would you want for them?Post edited by Heartwood at 2019-03-02 14:29:29ID: 247225

No problem!

I have gotten liver fiver too recently if you need more straws I have these 2 guys who have passed SBA.

DarkDesiresDP -
Nearly all my foundation stallions have liver, even if it's hidden.
-
@RutledgeRanch ooh they are both beautiful, I love all of the dapples! I'd love to buy a few straws if I can! Liver fever is totally contagious, as soon as I got my first one I was hooked =))
@Forestshadow wait a hidden liver? That's a new term for me! Are you talking about DP?ID: 247225

Yes I am talking about DP. I have browns and such that are hiding DP.
-
@Peachtree sure let me know who and how many I'm a sucker for dapples too =))Post edited by RutledgeRanch at 2019-03-02 22:22:47

@Forestshadow ohhh I see, I'll have to check out your stables then, I'm pretty confident in my ability to recognize hom or het dp in bays and chestnuts, but I have no idea what to look for in browns. (and I have a line of browns so I really should, haha)
@RutledgeRanch how about 3 from Dark Desires to start with?

@Peachtree yes browns are a pain, because the color of an AtAt brown is lighter than an Ata brown (as far as I can tell from using the Horse Search feature); and it's hard to distinguish that from sooty and Dp.
-
Oh I know, the browns are a neverending source of confusion! Plus genes like silver make a big difference.
I've been trying to breed really dark browns like this het girl:
G2 Candelabra
and aside from the pangere and AtAt she has the same genetic base as this hom brown! @-)
G2 Powdered Sugar Smooch
I've been working under the assumption that to get a really dark brown like Candelabra I would need at least one E and het At. But I have no clue how DP fits in, if it does =))ID: 247225

So I got inspired to poke around the search on a quest to find possible DP browns :)) Found these two hom sooty hom browns (like my girl above) but way darker. Seems like they could potentially have some DP? Thoughts?

@ Peachtree I know the struggle, dark dark browns are so pretty!
I mean, how could you not love this?

This was my beloved foundation stallion. He's brown with hom DP. He has KP, but you can still see how dark he was.Thanked by 1SherwoodStables -
Here's some of his DP foals. All his foals were guaranteed to have 1 copy of DP, minimum.

As a matter of fact, you can just look at his foal record and see all kinds of examples with brown and bay DP.Thanked by 1SherwoodStables -
@Forestshadow oh wow, he sure is gorgeous! Yeah I can definitely tell through the KP, plus looking at some of his foals. They're all so striking, I can definitely see that they're darker than average.ID: 247225

Oops I didn't see your second post when I replied, but I was browsing through them anyway out of curiosity :) thanks for helping me get a better idea of it!ID: 247225

Wow that helped a lot, actually!
And those are some gorgeous browns. On some of the roans, I can't even see the brown, they just look like blue roans.
