Is SBA really worth it?
-
Why is SBA better than BA? I’ve been hand breeding all of my horses this season and I’m starting to get really disheartened. I have roughly 20 pass SBA and 50 that have gotten snipped. All of them are even bred, I’ve matched paper levels and used comparable pt scores and I don’t understand why all of them are failing. All of the sires and dams have passed SBA as well. Should I just switch everything over to pasture breeding next season?
-
I highly recommend pasture breeding. Almost all of my foals passed SBA last season.
Now, the caveat on that is that SBA still doesn’t guarantee that the foal is enough better than the parents. It’s useful for weeding out more foals that aren’t better than their parents, but doesn’t catch all. I’ve had foals pass SBA but still paper below their parents.
In short, it’s all useful. SBA, and papering together help ensure that your quality increases. -
Strict Breeding Advice is better because it's stricter. Because its threshold for passing is higher than regular Breeding Advice, so the foals that get through are better quality overall. Like was said above, it doesn't guarantee that the foals are going to be better than their parents, just that they aren't a lot worse.
Pasture breeding would definitely help, but every breeding has some element of randomness to it. Some years you'll get a lot of one thing, other years more of another thing.
If you look at a single season, any one season can be kind of demoralizing. But every year is ANOTHER breeding season, and eventually you'll get to the point where you have so many horses that you'll wish SBA was even stricter. :) -

I definitely wish SBA was just that little bit stricter, if they only pass BA the foals can be quite a bit worse that the parents, so with no way to compare fillies your breeding program can quickly go backwards with only breeding same paper levels and just BA
-
I would love to have a way to compare fillies to their dams. Might solve the mare lag.
-
Absolutely I was thinking the same thing just a few days ago! Mare comparison would be perfect. Although we'd have more snips :))
-
More show stock, and you know that the remaining intact mares would be good
-
Yes. I've got so much show stock though I've been selling at auction and keeping my favorites...which are all white :)) now if I could just get my lines to show the same color I'd be doing great.Post edited by bluchrystals at 2019-03-03 19:39:30

I just buy more barns and fill them with more horses. :D Although I did still sell a fair number last season.
-
Don't have enough barns for what I've got now! :))
-
I need to start stocking up on pastures for next season lol
-
For me it just really depends lol. Sometimes I have good luck in pastures and sometimes I don't. I also have good luck with in house breeding and sometimes I don't. I have my pastures full but I also have other horses I breed with straws or in house. My first foal of the season was this guy first colt and he was a straw. I used a different stud straw on the second guy and he passed SBA.

If you don’t want to use SBA you don’t have to. It’s not a requirement. You do you.
Unless you are cheating or negativity affecting another players game play (harassing) its all good.
Personally I do all of the testing and prefer to do as much as possible in bulk on the barn pages before I even open a single foals page (or create) so that it reduces the “awww I don’t want to test him because he’s so Perdy!” Feelings. Even when I do have to go to the horses page to complete testing I tend to open several and flip to the control panel as quickly as possible.
But I breed almost 1000 horses a month so cutting down the breeding stock is a must and I am happy to let the game do as much of it as possible. Every few months I also tweak my own personal requirements so that I snip more horses and use the search page to eliminate the horses with the genes I do want and will gleefully run down pages and pages of horses snipping them all (possibly just because they missed 1 E or D because I have enough EE DD horses to carry on towards my goal.) but that’s what works for me. For how I play the game.
At the end of the day it’s a game. If you feel SBA is snipping too many horses then don’t use it until you feel like you have too many horses then use it on some or all. Whatever works for you.Breeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genesThanked by 1HayesStable -
I prefer SBA because it's a quick free way to weed out the undesirable ones that aren't fit to be kept as breeding stock, no matter how pretty they might be. Sure it hurts, but there's always next season.Thanked by 1SharayahStables

I literally can't even imagine how one would cheat at this game? Unless you promised another player something and didn't deliver? That's the only thing I can actually think of.ID #238663, she/her pronouns

Unfortunately some humans will try to cheat on everything.
I don’t understand why. It’s not like it benefits anyone outside of the game to cheat but they don’t want to put the time or energy into earning money themselvesBreeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes
