Ok so i recently put one stand of ice genes to one of my mares. Can i do 2? I tried to add a strand to one of my stallions but it wouldnt work. Is it because i have a basic upgrade or does it have to do with me needing to add another strand to my mare?? Also how would breeding work down the line with this mare?

Here is my mare but shes the only one to have it as for some reason i couldnt buy another strand to add to one of my studs or any other horse thats under 4 and hasnt been bred yet.

If you want to add a second copy to her, you have to add strand 2. As for the others, are you using foundation horses? Can i have links to the horses you have tried?

Yep I had a look at Lucy Lou in the advent link she has ice1 on Strand One, and you still have the option to add it to Strand Two. What stallion did you sty to add it to? They just have to be unbred foundations

When you want to add two copies of a gene to a horse, you select either strand 1 or strand 2 and click the button to add it to the horse. This takes you to the PayPal page where your order of the gene is noted. Then you have to go back to the Upgrade with Real Money page. On my computer that is a separate tab that stays open when the PayPal tab is activated. Click the button to add the gene to the other strand. (I usually do strand 1 first and then strand 2, to make it easier to remember what I'm doing.) This will take you back to the PayPal tab/page where you can complete the purchase of both strands at once.

To answer you other questions:

1. You don't need an upgrade to add genes to horses, and adding genes to one horse does not influence your ability to add them to other horses. However, if the stallion was not a foundation, you probably would not be able to add a gene that neither of its parents had. I'm not certain about adding genes to lined horses that they missed getting from a parent using the Roving Gene Sale.

2. Breeding horses with purchased genes works the way breeding always does. If a horse has one copy of any gene, there is a 50% chance a foal will inherit the special gene and a 50% chance that it won't. If the horse has 2 copies of the gene, it will always pass on one copy to its foals. When the Color Test returns its report, the copies of all the genes a foal got from its sire are always listed on the left of the pair. The copies of genes from the dam are listed on the right. For example, If the stallion has EE at extension and the mare has ee, the foal's extension pair will be written as Ee.

Special genes can't be added to lined horses if they missed the genes from their parents in the GMT lab. However, you can add DP to lined horses if the horse in question missed the gene from sire and dam. Not certain about KP. I know Satin can be added if the horse missed that gene from parents. Sooty + can be added as well.

Any gene that is in the GMT lab can be added to foals who missed it from their parents. So that does include KP :) You can't use the RGS for this reason, only the GMT lab
