So I've Been Thinking...
-
Thinking about if I should start another account that focuses on the best of the best in horses. So like I will only accept even bred horses, has to be superior to sire, has to paper higher than both parents, is consistent, and has better PT than both parents to train better. And of course have flashy genes. Any horse that does not meet the criteria will be snipped. Any horse that is not flashy will get snipped. What to do an "experiment account" you could say. What do you think? Of course it'll take me awhile to get the hbs to get the basic upgrade to do All the required testing, but I want to see if I like the strictness that I see most people have. I just don't want to ruin this account if I somehow end up not liking it. And I also would like to start out with a foundation Nd1 male and female but I don't know quite how to do that...any encouragement, advice, and tips will be great!
-
Aannd I've been thinking about calling it Wolvevenfrossst...with three S's but I have a feeling that will get very, very confusing to a lot of people very quickly. I want it to start out with Wolveven but don't know what else to put after...any clues as to what it could be called?
-
I am all about quality, so I would say go for it! I myself find it much more gratifying getting good quality than just pretty colors :PID 195859Thanked by 1Visions

As far as a name...grove, sky, cloud, stream, snow, earth, fire,. Which direction are you wanting to take it :))
-
I'm quite the opposite lol! I'm ALL about the colors, I could care less for everything else. I'm just very curious to how it feels to use and do all these things that most people I see do. I don't want to take the risk of starting it here just in case I hate it. So your all about quality, what rules do you have to have the boys and girls pass? I'd love to know!
-
WolvevenGrove, WolvevenSky, WolvevenCloud, WolvevenStream, WolvevenSnow, WolvevenEarth, WolvevenFire...hmmm I'm quite fond of a few..
I love Winter, it's my favorite cause of all the snow and lovely kindness going around. So anything to do with snow, frost, ice, frostbite, etc. I absolutely love.Post edited by Wolvevenfrost at 2019-03-13 03:48:13 -
WolvevenIce, WolvevenFrostbitten, WolvevenSnowflake, WolvevenWinter, WolvevenCold, WolvevenFreeze, WolvevenLight, WolvevenTree, WolvevenOrnament, WolvevenMitten, WolvevenSweater, WolvevenSnowball, WolvevenFlake, WolvevenSleigh, WolvevenGlacier, bare with me I'm trying to figure it out... =))
-
Ok if you want wintery: ice, glacier, icicle, sleet, hail, freeze, rime, blizzard, flurry, crystal, white, frigid, arctic, polar. I'm tapped, I've no more :))
-
I breed for quality and the color icing. Mind you, I do have some pretties but with patience, it is a nice strategy. I use pastures and ex pro stallions as my foundation (B stallions, red & yellow mares).
2G must be A colts and Red/Blue mares. If you start with C /yellow foundation, a B colt and red mares are fine.
3G must be Superior colt (will still be A) and mares must be Blue. Even with starting with a C/yellow foundation, all 3Gs in my barn must be A/Blue.
4G - when starting out at this gen, a superior A colt will suffice UNTIL I get a Star. Now all my 4G stallions are Star. Mares are Gold/Blue. If starting with C/yellow foundations, this gen can still be A/Blue.
5G & up I am all Star stallions and Gold mares. Stallions must test Superior (can be HARD - but it is a GOAL)! If starting with C/yellow foundations, this gen is where I will start getting the Star colt and Gold mares.
And all the pretties that do not "meet the quality standard" are still very pretty show ponies - doing a great job of making you HBs in the show barn!
Thanked by 1Kintara -
That is a very nice strategy you have there @Visions! I like it!
@bluchrystals What do you think? Wolvevensnow or Wolvevensleet? -
Hmm, I think sleet sounds better. Slightly. They're pretty close when you say them out loud. Sleet sounds harder, more forceful. Ends in that t sound like frost.
-
TBH, I was going for Wolvevensleet as well. =))
-
To get an nd1 stallion and mare will be tricky if you are starting out with an account that is not upgraded as you will not have enough to GMT your horses. Your best bet is to trawl the auctions and sales boards, or to ask for the appropriate horses in a post - as you know, people on here are very generous.
As to quality, I go along with what Visions said. Use breeding advice (strict when you are able to get it) and geld/spay anything that papers less than its parents. Keep all the altered foals as show ponies.
It will be slow going, but so rewarding when you reach your goals. Good luck! -
I may still have a mare but she only het.
-
For quality, my standards are as following:
Foundations: C stallions and Yellow mares that pass SBA
2nd gen: B stallions that pass SBA and test superior to sire, Red mares that pass SBA
3rd gen: A stallions that pass SBA and test sup to sire, Blue mares that pass SBA
4th gen: A stallions that pass SBA and test sup to sire, Blue mares that pass SBA
5th gen: Star stallions that pass SBA and test sup to sire, Gold mares that pass SBA.
That standard of quality might be easier for you to work with, if you're not planning to use boosted lines. I don't do boosted lines myself.
And of course, the intacts that pass SBA and pass the other tests also must pass my own determined criteria. But for right now, the standard I listed might work for you.
Good luck -
I have quite a few het nd1 foundations and I could sell straws from my Hom nd1 foundation boy if you need them

I'm doing something similar on my Calliecat113 and AngelAppy accounts :) I also have 2 side accounts on the Forest Server that i do this with too
On AngelAppy i focus on Silver blue roans with a hint of kit m thrown in at 2nd gen. On Calliecat113 i have a nexus herd focusing, obviously, on nexus.
Paper requirements for both are 2G Red/B, 3G Blue/A, 4G Blue/A )hopefully with a Star/Gold on a rare occasion, but since i start with C/Yellow i won't hold my breath too hard) and 5G Gold/Star. I snip everything that is inconsistent. I don't have it on hand but i have PT requirements for each generation that will actually change as i gauge what each gen is capable of. And for my nexus account, Everything 3G and higher MUST be homozygous nexus. I will be snipping all hets after 2nd gen. It's a lot of fun to do and much nicer keeping these lines seperate from my main account. And for my Silver Blue Roans, I snip everything that doesn't test as such. All silver blacks and anything not silver blue roan gets snipped.
Unfortunately i can only do BA since i can't afford to have a premium on more than my two main (HayesStable here and AHayesHorses on forest server) but i am being as strict as i can.Bluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

I disagree on it taking awhile to get your own Nd1 mares, as well as a basic upgrade with a new account... I made a new account in November and by December I had an upgrade for it using hbs I also have a 120 and 60 stall barns. I could afford to buy more and bigger barns but im saving for a GMT project and account merge. I’ve always created over 20 Nd1, and liver chestnut mares that have passed BA.
I used the create, pasture breed, BA everything, Auction everything repeat strategy. As well as anything created with 250+ points I would sell for a profit. I would rarely PT, BA or genetic, test unless it was a very high pointed horse 800+ points. Or a liver or Nd1 mare I wanted to sell those could sell for around $10,000 or more. I always made a form post, so people would know there are decently priced pointed horses for sale.
What I would sell the pointed horses for was
200-249= $2,600
250-300=$3,000
301-349$3,500-4,000
After that I’d add a thousand every hundred
900+ Pointed horse go for $40,000 ish
(These mares have all already been bred, their foal in Auction will bring a $2,000 profit) the more foals you can Auction th better. So I always try selling mares before I Auction them. But they do go in the auction if nobody grabs them.)
I never kept any horses for myself until I had a very high amount of Hbs and Ivs saved.
If you use that method you will be creating tons of mares and be able to pick and choose which mares you would like to keep for your own use.
I hope this helps you. -
@White Valley I was thinking the same thing pretty much, just lurk in the auctions and sales until I find what I want. @bluchrystals and @Nikkel666 don't worry I'm good. I plan on waiting however long it takes to get a Hom Nd1 mare and stallion as crazy as that sounds. 8-} @Forestshadow I like that list as well! I'm starting to see a pattern and have a pretty good idea what to do now. Thanks!
@HayesStable (I'm just realizing your names says Ha yes Stable) I can now really see the pattern you all go for when it comes to being strict. I actually thought I'd have a hard time figuring it out (for some weird reason) but it's a lot easier than I thought! @Silverstar that's a pretty good tactic there, although I plan on growing very slowly with this new account as I have this big one with easily over a thousand horses to manage. So it all works together nicely in the end for me. But I'll keep that in mind thank you!
Alright, I have made my decision! I'm starting a new account called Wolvevensleet!Thanked by 1HayesStable -
Ummm....nvm here it is not...lol how embarrassing hold on.Post edited by Wolvevenfrost at 2019-03-13 14:37:12

Now this is the one. Lol!

@Wolvevenfrost lol Hayes is my last name but i have actually noticed it looks like Ha-yes before and i kinda joke around with it now :)) But it's pronounced like Haze. My dad once said to me "You're my fog-let" and i was like, what? And his response was "You're a little Hayes (Haze)!" I rolled my eyes and laughed lolBluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755
