Pasture Breeding Questions
-
Hey folks,
I'm brand new to the game and just have a question about pasture breeding. My understanding is that horses in the pasture automatically and randomly breed on the 14th of each month/season, and that mares left in the pasture can earn a breeding bonus based on time spent in the pasture, for a maximum bonus earned after 30 days. I've read in the FAQ etc. that some people forgo the full breeding bonus, acquired at 30 days in the pasture, to breed their mares earlier.
My question is this;
How do you ever get the 30 day breeding bonus if horses in the pasture automatically breed in the 14th? Does the breeding bonus "carry over" season to season and therefore the mare would get the full breeding bonus in the SECOND consecutive season she's in the pasture? Otherwise I don't see how a mare could ever get the full bonus if horses automatically breed in the middle of the month.
Thanks :) ! If I end up with more questions I will add them to this thread. The pasture is something I haven't quite gotten a grasp of yet, but I'm sure it'll make sense as I play with it. Appreciate the help! -
Second question - is there any benefit to adding a younger mare (say 3 years old) to the pasture even though she cannot breed until 4? I noticed I am able to add mares to the pasture that aren't of breeding age and I am wondering why or what the benefit is. Thanks!

1) the pasture bonus accrues and then remains the entire time a mare is in pasture. You can move a mare from one pasture to another, directly, without resetting her bonus. The bonus is only reset when a mare leaves the pasture for the barn. Then she will have no pasture bonus, and would start over again at 0 days if she were put back into a pasture from the barn.
2) Putting 3 year old mares in pasture allows them to build up a bonus for when they are of breeding age.Go boldly, where no App has gone before!Thanked by 1ConfluenceStable -
Also, you don't have to put a stallion in there. If there's no stallion on the 14th, the pasture can't breed.

@SherwoodStables Right, I've got two pastures so I'm going to keep one as "holding" of sorts and then use the other one to move a stallion and the mares I want him to breed into (or random stallions/mares if I'm not looking for specific foals) prior to the 14th. Thanks for the tip!

That’s what I do. I have a 10 acre pasture that I love mares to in group from my main pastures to breed. It’s more tedious that way, but I’m picky about which mares go to which stallion so it’s the best way for me to manage them and still get the pasture bonus. At least until I can afford more pastures.Post edited by paradoxphoenix at 2019-03-24 19:22:55Thanked by 1FlyingTurkeyFarm

I personally don't leave stallions in there, so nothing ever gets bred on the 14th. Instead I put a stallion in when I am ready to breed. I also have a little 10 horse pasture I use when I want to just breed a small number of mares to a particular stallion. It's great being able to move mares around the pastures without losing their bonusThanked by 1FlyingTurkeyFarm

Don't the studs also pick up pasture bonus?

No, only the mares get a pasture bonus.Breeding high quality Sheldasen horses in all the fancy colors.

@Kintara that's the strategy I've settled on, I'm holding all my mares in my primary pasture and using my 10-horse as a "breeding pen" so I can move just the mares I want to breed to a certain stallion into there and then manually breed my 10 horse pasture when the time is right. Appreciate everyone's feedback :) !Thanked by 1Kintara
