Flaxen Amber Champagne Question
-
IM2 Perfect Impulse
Homozygous ff, but mane and tail are darker than the body. Are they brown rather than the usual Bay black due to Flaxen working? -
Flaxen does not affect black/bay based horses, only red based horses.Go boldly, where no App has gone before!
-
Flaxen only does anything at all on red based horses, so while she carries it and could pass it on to red based foals, that's not what's lightening her mane and tail.
This horse is an Amber champagne- a bay with a champagne dilution. This is what's lightning her body as well as mane and tail.
Here's some of my Amber champs for comparison. They're all roughly the same, despite a variety of flaxen combinations-

Diamond Heart WrB ChApp
CFN Amber Heart RBluChApp
CFN Dark Diamond RR ChApp
And these ones are actually ff and darker than the others

Thanks, I didn't know that Champagne diluted the mane and tail as well as the body.

Welcome! Champagne lightens everything! Fur, mane and tail, skin, even eyes! It's pretty cool lookingSpiderweb Stables

I bred this filly a few days ago and she is going into my double breeding line to try to get a Gold Champagne with three to four darkening alleles.Post edited by TimidGoddess at 2019-04-10 17:22:58 -
What a pretty pale gold! If you're going for that dark gold, a liver chestnut with champagne, you may want to try to breed out that cream
They are pretty! Here's mine

That is what I am going for, a (Liver) Gold Champagne. Which is why she is going into my Liver and Chocolate Palomino breeding line. Dam was Homozygous for Cream, Champagne, Silver and possibly Dun. Sire was Homozygous Sooty.

Gotcha. I wish you the best of luck with that!Spiderweb Stables
