Unusual silver black?
-
I have been making some silver black expros during the blackout. Now, most of them look like this one:
ex silver 8220588
...or dappley like this one:
ex silver 8220586
And the I got this goregous creature, and I am completely in love with her :x

What causes those lovely dapples? :)
-
The dapples are part the silver and part random :) All silvers and dark chestnuts/bays (and maybe some more colors? I cant remember) can get dapples if you reroll for them.ID 195859
-
Maybe the W20?
-
W20 should not affect coat color, though.ID 195859
-
I'm suspecting it might be DP that influences the coat color and makes the dappling more pronounced?
I've had a discussion about this a while ago: https://www.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/comment/95904#Comment_95904
However, I have not been able to breed / test breed yet if DP really influences silver blacks or not. (But next season I probably will, as I got a lot of silver blacks now to try out^^)
But either way, she is gorgeous!HJ1 160524

I just tried testing the silver/DP theory by putting 2 Hom silver black mares to a black liver Chestnut stallion... Results :
Chestnuts... :-w
Foals love testing my patience this season ~X( -
I have a dp silver black with dapples and W20. No where near that light although he is Appy which may have something to do with that. W20 will lighten a chestnuts coat slightly(at least it has on some of mine), I'm not sure about a silver black though.

All these are at least het. DP

This one is hom. DP (both parents are hom. DP)

DP (dense pheomelanin) should not affect black pigment (eumelanin); therefore horses that are black-based would have no evidence of DP as they do not produce pheomelanin.
-
@Monsterpony that's true.
But as the silver dillutes the coat slightly, it *seems* to be that it shows a little? At least on the last one that Herzeloyde posted, I've never seen any silver black so dark so that would prove the theory that DP in combination with silver is visible.
However, we would need to do more tests and thus breed more! :p
I tried to breed some DP Silver Blacks, but I do not have that many that can create silver blacks.
I bred the girls I had to a Freaky Friday stud that is up for public, so they are all het DP. These are the results, 4 silver black foals (1 is silver grullo):

They do not seem that special or super dark to me, only Pick A Floor is a bit darker. However, this is a small trial.
So again: more breeding is needed, but I cannot breed anymore Silver Blacks this season :(

I just GMT a Cherry Drop into a Silver Black..
This was Hom DP, no Sty
This is Hom DP, Het Sty
This is Hom DP, Hom Sty (slight change in dapples)
This is a reroll
-
Bambi.. if you sell eggs you know who to message! ;)
-
I got you Sharayah ;)
-
This mare has S+, I've rerolled her a few times, she has been mostly the browner color with dapples and one time she was more of a blueish almost mousey gray and no dapples
Scottish Bling Sasa -
@Bambi so cool that you did this, thank you for showing us.
Its weird how the single and double sty both look a totally different shade of a regular silver black, but that amongst them there is almost no difference.
And lastly the reroll makes her look like a 'normal' silver black to me again.
Silver blacks with DP are surely very puzzling!HJ1 160524
HJ2 136 -
I've rerolled her picture about 20 times and the one thing I noticed is that most of the rerolls are super dark with about maybe 5 of them looking normal non DP
-
Ohmygooood, I GMTd the mare in the original post to be StySty instead of SS, and she turned all chocolatey and gorgeous :x
ex silver 8220589
I am tempted to try making her EE to see if it is liver making her this color, buuuut I also do not want to lose the shade she is now :PID 195859 -
(you might need to open her page to see the new color if you've seen her earlier)ID 195859

Wow Maribo, she is even more gorgeous now! :O What a beauty!HJ1 160524

Oh, she is stunning!!!
I found the full brother of the hom. dp mare, and he is also very dark. He is also hom. dp
