I really enjoy the game! Are there specific things you have questions about? The FAQ is a great resource for a general overview getting started.

The game is built on real-life genetic principles and the best scientific knowledge of horse color genetics, updated whenever new discoveries are published. There are some fantasy genes thrown in for fun, too. These include quite a few Ice variants, the Rainbow Riot cluster (Watercolor, Plaid, and Nacre), and the Nexus group (Nexus, Axiom in three colors, and Wrong Warp).
The game includes the latest updates on the various Agouti alleles (Bay) and most recently the Dun alleles have been upgraded to include non-dun 1, scientifically confirmed, especially in horse breeds from the Iberian peninsula (Andalusians and Lusitanos) last year.
The Genetics Guide gives more information, although it's not quite up to date for the game yet.

We have Mushroom, a dilution gene identified in British Shetland Ponies, which is a real gene, and Chinchilla which totally wipes out red pigment (pheomelanin), a new fantasy gene.
As for whether the game is worth it, I've been playing it since 2011, my daughter since 2010, and some players who began in 2006 (I think) when the game was first created are still around.Post edited by SandyCreekAcres at 2019-04-22 16:53:20Thanked by 1Corvus -
I’m a 2006 starter. Over the years I’ve thought about stopping when life has gotten busy and I’ve only logged on once or twice a month but what keeps me coming back is the community.
Unlike a lot of other games this is definitely a choose your own adventure. You decide what direction you’d like to take your barn in and are able to set goals to reach.
Without tons of direct player to player competition (as we all have our own goals to achieve) and since we don’t tolerate a lot of drama on the forums and encourage proper English (rather than chat speak) so all of our players from around the world can understand and easily read the forums even if English isn’t their first language the community has developed into a super generous place to be.
If you let people know what your goals are (breeding for colour, quality, great show horses, high performance test scores etc.) you will have at least 1 or 2 if not a dozen people lining up to help you reach that goal with the offer of horses, money or adviceBreeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes
