Best way to make money?
  • Is there a better way than showing? I have been a member for quite a few years and I just recently decided to get back into the game, as I never really gave it a chance before.. I absolutely love it. Except for that I am poor. I bought a basic upgrade and I am finding myself out of money really quickly. Help me. Tips are appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.
  • Ive been focusing on pointed foundations to keep my herd going while I replace my higher PT babies. I stick to yearlings with at least 200 points, but will splurg for a higher one if its a good price.
Jayda Brown sometimes has 18YOs she sells that have over 1k points
I have a few horses I brood out too...
If im really in a pinch, i create one stud and 50 mares. Breed the mares, auction the 101 horses for a quick turn around

Thats how ive been making my money mostly
  • Hmm, I wish I could afford to buy 50 mares and breed them all. Thank you so much for the advice. You are awesome.
  • If you can’t afford 50 start by creating as many as you can afford to and after each auction take all the proceeds and use it all to create more.

I’ve had luck on hj2 making money by searching the auctions and sorting them by total points. Place a 2,600 bid on every horse you can starting at the top of the list until you run out of money to bid. If you can come back later in the day start where you left off and continue on. Don’t put a bid on any that already have another players bid. You don’t want to get into a bidding war that just cuts profits.

After the auction I alter anything that’s intact but you could breed them and auction the foals if you want. Then I sort all my horses by total points in my barns putting the high point horses in any extra barns. Whatever’s left in my primary barn I stick into the next auction and continue the pattern.

This keeps my total number of horses around the same level but my total points grows. A percentage of the total points held by all your horses gets paid out every night.

Train and show everything twice a week. As long as the horses aren’t placing last they are earning you more points and more money.

Finally I have an open Buddy chat called “JL show horse sales” that I list aged (10-15 years old) and pointed show horses in for 3000hbs each. Currently I have a bunch of 12 year olds that average about 20-50 hbs per day in show bonus.

  • I’ve used the “create mares breed in pasture then auction the babies/mares” method and it works pretty good. Also when you’re creating a lot of mares you tend to create a couple rare gene ones every once in awhile. Like liver, Nd1 and PATN1 horses, those I BA tests and if they pass I put them up for sale at the going rate. They usually sell for more If I don’t breed them.
  • Thank you everyone for your advice. I really appreciate it. I threw some horses in the auction and I have some show horses aswell.
  • To be self sufficient a good ratio for a barn to have is 3 show horses for every 1 breeding horse.

Altered horses are free money. They sit in their stall and cost a few bucks a week to show but don’t take long at all to start earning enough each day to cover their own weekly expenses.

Breeding horses on the other hand. If you want a chance at better foals you have to stick them in the pastures for a good length of time which means they are loosing out on valuable show experience so their income will be smaller than a dedicated show horse. If you leave them out of the pastures for showing then you will get more altered foals. Altered horses also get a bit of a training bonus so will show about a year longer than an intact horse.

Throughout her life time of bred every year each mare in your barn will cost you 1 - 15stall barn.

If you continue to grow without having a show string it will get harder to cover buying another barn to fit horses. I’ve played since 2006. Currently I need a 1000 stall barn every month to fit my 900 new pasture bred foals into my barns. Since I have more than 1000 non primary stalls I have a mark up percentage to pay so I need 692 IV’s which goes up every time I buy any sized barn. Which is why I am also selling off show horses since I have over 6000 of them

  • A great way to earn money for a barn with less than 20 000 points total, is to create horses with points. Try to use exceptional HHs, like exceptional producing and exceptional showing, as they will train better or breed better, and be worth more for potential buyers.

    - Auction all those with points lower than 200 to get their funds back. If you name them something similar to "expro frame with points" or differently, depending on which HH you used to create them, they may attract buyers like me, who will buy them for a little more than the Automatic Auction Buyer.

    - If you get any with more than 6-700 points you can have a forum auction, or sell them on the sales list for a decent amount of money. The horses in between, you can sell or keep depending on what you want or need.

-Use this time to get a feeling for what you want to breed. If for example Silver Blacks or Sable Champagnes are your thing, keep those, and sell the others. As long as they sell for more than 2600 hbs, and you have not done anything other than color and the free breeding test, you will have earned money for selling them.

Another great thing by doing this, is that for each horse you create, you have a chance to win the lottery, which will add funds to your barn.

You can have as many money as you want in your account, but as soon as you have more than 20 000 points total, you can not create foundations with points anymore. Then you must sell horses to get you under 20 000 points to be able to create pointed foundations again.
It is possible to earn a decent amount of money quick by selling these pointed foundations.
But it limits your own progress. So when you feel you have a good amount of money, sell everything except the mares you want for breeding, and the highest pointed foundations you have. This is the time to start keeping everything you create with more than 600 points, because they will pay you more pr stable than those with less points. The goal is to have as few horse as possible to make up the 20 000 points, in order to have more barn space for everything else.

    - After you have acquired the 20 000 points and feel ready to move on, you should try to have at least 3 show horses pr mare you use for breeding. I personally have 10 show horses pr broodmare, because of the high toll we big barns pay on new barns.

By using this method, I earned enough to buy myself a year of basic upgrade and a 210 barn within 6 weeks of playing on my free test account.

  • And the big reason why creates with 600+ points is so valueabler for older barns, is because with the relatively new one month long HAJ-year, a lined foal will use 10-11 months to earn those 600+ points
